I don't want to deal with any release issues when The Departed comes out so I'm actually going to preorder this time...

Which place is the best to go to to make sure I get the movie when it comes out? (having it a day or two early wouldn't be so bad either lol)

Amazon is the favorite around here.

Amazon is the favorite around here.

Especially if you have the 10% discount. But, you won't receive new releases until a day or two after release.

I agree with Amazon. Good prices, especially if you get the 10% discount and Amazon prime shipping.

Yep ill go with amazon as well. I don't think any B&M stores are preordering HDDVDs yet.. But if you preorder at amazon you may be able to get it on the day of. Although its getting really close now..

Ill do a +1 for Amazon AND Ill throw another vendor that I have used HD-DVDWorld.Com I have NOT used them for pre-orders but I have ordered with them and they are reliable and if you go to the hidefdigest forums there is a contact there if you have any problems with your order so far its been an A+ experience with them.

I signed up for Amazon Prime just now but I see no mention of the 10% discount only the free 2 day shipping. Am I missing something?

No - the people who report the 10% discount are those lucky enough to get in on a promotion that ended 12/31/2006. Unfortunately I did not so I don't do any preordering. I recently signed up for the Amazon Prime free trial but will cancel at the end of 30 days since there is no benefit other than 2 day shipping. That 10% off would have made a big difference for me in keeping the Prime membership.

Damn I missed it! When I signed up is said free for 90 days. At least the free 2 day is nice because Super Saver shipping can sometimes take forever.

Amazon has extended the promo to 12/31/2007! :)

Do email them to verify as I did receive a notice informing me about this matter.

I have Emailed Amazon, asking them if the offer has been extended to 12/31/2007. I will post their answer.

Thanks for mentioning the extension, pchin2!

I'm also looking to preorder both The Departed HD DVD and Digital Video Essentials HD DVD. Can I sign up for Amazon Prime if I already have an account through Amazon? I don't want to change accounts because I have the 10% off discount. I will be able to get that 10% discount applied when I preorder right? And does the HD DVDs ship on the release date? because I thought about ordering Hollywoodland but it says it will ship in 6 to 11 Days which I don't want to wait so I wanted to make sure that when I preorder it ships on release date. Thanks I'm loving HD DVD with my Xbox 360 Add On.

Yes you can add Amazon Prime to your existing account, try the trial of it I think its free for 3 months

If you qualify for the discount it will be applied to pre-orders, however they often forget to set this when they first put a movie up for pre-order. It takes complaining to get it fixed

Most movies will ship on there release date unless they get backordered. Unfortunatly a good percentage of them do wind up backordered

Any other questions? :)

underdog beat me to it.

Also to add, with large orders amazon prime is great in that you can have each movie shipped seperatly rather then waiting on one movie that might be on back order.

I think they should have an additional discount for pre-order items. I know they used to have something like that for books and dvds but not sure if they still do or not.

Any word on the anticipated PQ of The Departed on the HD? Just wondering if it is worth buying in HD or just renting the standard (and see it upgraded on the HD A2).

I received Amazon's response about whether or not you can still order 3 HD DVD's on the same order and get 10% off on future orders. The answer was no. The promotion qualifying expired 12/31/2006.

Amazon:
"Thank you for writing to Amazon.com with your concern.

If you purchased a qualifying High-Definition TV or DVD player, Blu-
ray disc player, or three High-Definition DVDs or Blu-Ray discs from
Amazon.com on or before Dec. 31, 2006, you've been enrolled to save
10% on all HD DVD and Blu-ray disc purchases through Dec. 31, 2007.
(The total value of this discount is limited to $5,000 in total
purchases or $500 in total discounts.)

Any high definition DVDs purchased in the same order as the
qualifying items will also receive the 10% discount--including the
three HD DVDs or Blu-ray discs purchased to qualify for the
promotion."

Shoot! I was ready to do some serious HD DVD shopping, since I missed the original deal. Maybe they'll rerun it sometime.
