View Full Version : XM in zone 2
UncleDave52 02-02-07, 06:55 PM Does anyone have a XM ready reciever and successfully run XM in zone 2? I am hoping to have a zone 2 on my deck and play XM on my new receiver. Someone said that you can't play anyting in a zone 2 from a digital source. I hope this is not the case. My new receiver (pick it up tomorrow) doesn't have A/B speaker because of the 2 zones. I'll be screwed?????????? How else can I get XM out to my deck?
I am running my XM on ZONE2 on my Denon and its been great!

What receiver did you get?
Definitely not true. Most receivers with xm treat it like a another band on the tuner.
To play audio in Zone 2, you must connect analog cables from source devices.
Ex. To play dvd player in zone 2, you must connect analog and a fiber optic cable.

How do you hook up the xm mini tuner w/ analog cables?

Oh yea..I got the Yamaha HTR-6090.

You don't have too. It acts like a radio band. You just plug in the tuner card and go.

I am using XM via zone 2 on the HTR-6090, works great!
It will tune radio/xm (via mini tuner plugged into the xm ready port)/or an analog audio connection.

That's great news. I guess the the guys at Magnolia/BB don't have a clue either. The owners manual does say "zone 2 must be from an analog source plugged into the Audio L/R".

Check page 113:
In the Zone 2 control mode, you can perform the following operation in Zone 2:
Adjusting the tonality of Zone 2
Adjusting the balance of the speaker level in Zone 2
AM, FM, or XM Satelittle Radio tuning in Zone 2.

Great...now I can take back the speaker swithcbox. How do you like the 6090? Mine didn't come in yesterday. I'll get it on Monday. I am fired up. Do you have a 5.1 or 7.1 setup? Will I have to do the firmware update if my unit is this new?

In general I love it but I do have 2 complaints. The front display is very dim and is hard to see from a distance. Also the volume is displayed in bar graph form (one bar for each 10db - the db is displayed but VERY tiny, have to get right up on the display to read it).
So I guess my only complaint is they need a better front display on the unit...
Otherwise, its a great unit, i'm sure you will be happy! I have a 7.1 setup with the svsound SVS-01 package and it sounds great. Zone 2 is ran to a pair of outdoor speakers. I just got my unit last week, have not done the firmware update so not sure if it is already applied on the new units but I have not experienced any problems.

That is the way my exact setup will be. Next purchase is outdoor speakers. Do you have any suggestions?
I am using an HK 745 and XM..
In Zone II I have another video display and can see all of the XM track/artist data while in Zone II. While the wife is watching an HD movie in the main room.
Another thing I like is the direct access to XM hit just 1 button and goes rite to XM either in the main roon and/or Zone II...
Neurorad 01-13-08, 01:11 AM Somewhat OT, but I've learned the Sirius Conductor home receiver has both stereo (RCA) and optical outs, so theoretically it could play in zone 2 over most AVRs. I hope...looking at the Denon 3808. Maybe the guys at Crutchfield will know for sure.
