View Full Version : HDMI/Component Wire/Wall Plate Questions

I'm in the process of having our new house built (yay), I'm also having a media room, built. I will be running a 30' HDMI and 30' Component wire setup from the receiver (most likely a Yamaha V2700) location (up the wall, across the ceiling) to the future location of a HD projector, before the dry wall goes up.

I want to use a HDMI/Component wall plate to make this run as neat/clean as possible.

Questions:
Is there anything I need to be concerned about when purchasing the cable? I've seen several different prices (googling) and can't quite figure out the differences, if there are any.

Wall Plates - Again, I've seen 'active' and 'passive' wall plates, I'm guessing I'll only need a passive design due to the short distance of the run, I'm I correct? These too are widly different in prices, I've seen them on Ebay for 8.00 each to 160.00 each. What should I be looking for?

Should I consider any other type of video input to run while I'm at it? I figured HDMI/Component would be all I need. As the rxvr I'm looking has HDMI switching and upconversion capabilites, just wanted to run component as an insurance policy.

Forgive me if these are mundane questions, it's my first attempt at building a home theater. I'm just trying to make everything as painless as possible.

TIA!

Have you tried rapid-run. They have a lot of nice cable/plate systems...may be expensive though. Some projectors need a control cable or rj45 jack too, you may want to put in a conduit or other means to get some cabling to the location.
