I wrote following email to Sarotech, but never got an answer:

I recently bought an Abigs DVP570-HD.

Here some critics about hardware:

* Fan ist too loud, best would be passive cooling.
* This would be possible, when this plastic shell where the harddisk is mounted, would be replaced with an aluminium one.

... and about software:

* navigation for the different mediums (photos, music, movies) should be separatly saved
o when you switch from music to movies, you have to navigate to root directory

* it seems not possible to go directly to an upfolder :
o if you have 100s of music folders, you have to go through all folders to go to a specific folder or to go back to the upfolder.
o That is really awful !

* it should be possible to select one or more folders to play the music inside these folders.

I hope, these points will be solved by a software upgrade.

Yes, Sarotech now publish the new firmware 1.12. (identical with this one from virus)

- AND - a really large changelog - 66 changes !

Will try this new firmware as soon as possible.
Will post my experiences after some testing.

Bad result after upgrade to 1.12 Firmware:

After unlock from PC/USB, DVP-570 do not switch to TV mode.

And much worser: Playlists do not work, they ar not listet in playlist panel.

Or did they change the playlist folder ?

From Manual, you have to put music playlist to:
/saro_sys/playlist2/

With original firmware both points worked fine,
after firmware upgrade, not.

To Daniel93: I did not aware about master or slave, I have to look at.
I formatted my samsung 300Gig with 3 NTFS partitions (1. Music, 2. Photo, 3. Movie) System folders have to be in primary partition.

- Power bookmarks: These mean the bookmarks set automatically when turning off the power by pressing the POWER key on the remote control during movie/music play.
- In order to play the bookmark file, press the B/M key on the file search screen and then select the desired bookmark.

52. Support of mymusic subfolders
- Play the music of the /hd0/mymusic/ folder by pressing the MUSIC key and then move the lower folder via ◀,▶ key.
- The ◀ key is used to move to the previous folder. The ▶ key is used to move to the next folder.
- The sequence to move folders is such that the /hd0/mymusic/ folder itself is number 1 and the next lower folders are number 2,3,4….
- Only the just lower folder of the /hd0/mymusic/ folder is movable.
(e.g. /mymusic/folder1, /mymusic/folder2)
- In case of being like /hd0/mymusic/folder1/subfolder2/, the contents of subfolder2 are not played.

53. Support of password setting
- This is a function to set a password to the desired folder.
- This can be applied to about 10 folders.
- Password setting: Move the cursor to the relevant folder and then enter the password by pressing the SKIP+ key. Enter 4 digits using numeric keys.
- Password release: Move the cursor to the relevant folder and then release the password by pressing the SKIP- key. If the password entered using numeric keys is the same as the set contents, then the password of the relevant folder is deleted.
- Searching of the folder with password entered: Selecting the relevant folder on the file search window displays a password input screen. If the password entered using numeric keys is the same as the set contents, the contents of the relevant folder are displayed.

54. Change of play list functions
- Addition to the play list: Selecting some movie/music files and then pressing the SYNC+ key adds the movie to the movie play list and the music to the music play list.
- Deletion from the play list: Selecting some movie/music files and then pressing the SYNC- key removes the relevant movie/music files from the play list.(however, only the case existing in the play list) This also can be deleted by entering the inside of play list, selecting the relevant movie/music files, and then pressing SYNC-.
- Change of play sequence in the play list: Going to the file whose position change is desired in the play list and then pressing the SKIP+/- key changes the play sequence.
- The function to directly create a play list in the FAT32 HDD was removed. Only the use of the flash play list is possible.

55. Addition of [setting]->[others] tab
- Addition of slide time: This changes the time of the photo slide show.
- Addition of progress information display: This sets existence of progress information display during movie play.
- Addition of subtitle colors: This changes the colors of subtitles during movie play.
- Screen brightness: This changes the brightness of TV screens.
- Screen colors: This changes the colors of TV screens.
- Screen light and darkness: This changes the light and darkness of TV screens.

56. Support of movie subtitle file selection functions
- It is possible to select a maximum of 5 subtitle files for a video file.
- A subtitle file name should contain a file name except the extension of video files.
Ex) If the video file is "abc.avi", then abc.smi, abc.srt, abc1.smi,abc123.srt, etc. can all be a subtitle file of abc.avi.
- Subtitles for a video file should exist in the same folder.
- Pressing the S/T key during movie play repeats ‘subtitle display ON => subtitle change => subtitle change .... => subtitle display OFF => subtitle display ON’.
- When changing subtitles by pressing the S/T key, the relevant subtitle file name appears in the field where subtitles are displayed.

57. Chang of how to use B-MUSIC
- All of the menus shown by pressing the existing B-MUSIC key were removed.
- Pressing the B-MUSIC key during file search, photo play, music play, or e-book play has the B-MUSIC played just immediately
- Pressing the B-MUSIC key during music play escapes into a file search screen just immediately. It is possible to perform other music file selection, photo play, e-book use, etc. while listening to the music.
- Pressing the B-MUSIC key while the B-MUSIC is played ends the B-MUSIC.

58. Addition of movie scroll functions
It is possible to move the screen position via ◀,▶,▲,▼ keys after pressing the scroll key during movie play. Pressing the scroll key again while moving the screen position ends the scroll mode.

59. Support of full screen of 4:3 PAN&SCAN
This normally supports the screen of 4:3 PAN&SCAN.
In the screen setting, the 16:9 menu was changed into the 16:9 LetterBox.
In the screen setting, a full screen menu was added.

60. Removal of menus
- Removed were the menus that had been shown by pressing the menu key while searching movies, music, photos, E-Book, B-MUSIC, or files.
- All the functions lying in the existing menu can all be used by the use of shortcut keys.
- During movie or music play, the MENU key functions as a INFO key.

61. Removal of ID3 Tag search function during music search
- The ID3 search items during music search were removed.

62. Removal of slide functions during music play
- The slide functions during music play were removed.
- You can use a photo slide after executing the B-MUSIC.

63. Removal of the function to see 4 sheets of photos

64. Removal of automatic scroll of E-Book

65. It is supposed to change in the sequence of ‘play of the current file only, repeated play of the current file only, play of the folder, and repeated play of the folder’ every time the REPEAT key is pressed during movie play. The factory default value during movie play should be ‘repeated play of the folder’.

66. Improvement of jpg picture quality
1. The improvement of picture quality is applied only to the independent play of jpg only.
High picture quality does not apply to the case of applying slides during music play or slides after applying the B-Music.
2. Correction of a problem that the system becomes down while the UI is turned off when playing a avi file 3~10 times with the play information screen turned on
3. Correction of a problem that the system becomes down during application of slide
4. Correction of a problem that ending the B-Music during photo play and slide play has the screen being played not appear
5. Correction of a problem that playing a jpg of unsupported file type has the system become down (a jpg of CMYK type is not supported. Only the RGB type is supported.)
6. Correction of a bug that pressing the SLIDE key continuously has the osd messages overlapped
7. Deletion of the function to see 4 sheets of photos
8. Deletion of rotation from the photo menu
9. Deletion of the menu/info key function from the searcher

But it is not a good sign, when they recommend to go back to v 1.07 firmware.

I think they should announce a new firmware with the functions but without the worsest bugs. There are some hope ...

I went back to Firmware 1.07.
And yes, my music playlists are working again.
But there are several other bugs - see changelog for 1.12 Firmware.
One sample: if you try to set a bookmark, you get an error message and afterwards only rebooting is possible.

But this media-player is not bad and I like it. - Waiting for a reliable firmware ...

Hi, have any of you tried to connect your Abigs to a wireless network? Can you do this via a router or do you have to connect through an access point or wireless bridge?

Would also like to know if there is a fix for this "abigs loading" problem.... have the same problem after upgrading from 1.07 to 1.14

After sending numerous of emails, Sarotech finally responded by asking where i was located so they could give me the address details for repair.... After my imediate reply on this email (one week ago) still no reply.

I have been fooling around with a max232 circuit but no luck yet. for some reason there is absolutely no serial communication on je J5 connections.

would appreciate if someone knows a solution on this

How did you upgrade ?
Try with abigs.bin file in update folder.
But I know, for this, abigs have to work, because you have to select the update buttom in system folder.
I never tried upgrade with ertour file. I do not understand, why this should work. This file is really small against the bin file.
I went from original 1.05 version to 1.12 and back to 1.07 because music playlist don't work with 1.12.
Now, I tried version 1.14, but also with this version music playlists don't work. So I just went back to 1.07.
At least no problems with my firmware changes.

i put the update\abigs.bin into the saro_sys folder and the pressed the update button in the system-menu... nothing else :-(

I heard, that abigs works fine with Samsung HDs, but not with all other manufacturer. - I have mounted a 300 Gig Samsung by chance.
If you don't want bring back it to the vendor, you can try with a Samsung HD ...

how would one go about getting free to air (australian) running on the abigs?

I have a 22" monitor running the system in my room connected to my mac mini and would really like to run free to air.

I could simply get a SD tuner...but the 22" only has vga and dvi inputs.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I had the same problem, my Sarotech didn't update to 1.14. After I changed the HD from a Hitachi to a Western Digital everything is ok!

I'm using firmware version 1.12 on the abigs. Also have the same problem with playlists; trying to open the music playlist will crash the unit.

REGARDING FILES NOT APPEARING ON THE ABIGS ONCE ITS CONNECTED TO A MONITOR:

My abigs came with version 1.12 and a 400GB Samsung HDD. I think the best thing to do would be to create 3 separate partitions on the disk like TRI. (ie MUSIC/MOVIES/PHOTOS). For a while I wasn't able to see the most recent uploads to abigs when it connected to a monitor.

After a bit of playing around and creating numerous new folders, all the files re-appeared. This would indicate a problem with (indexing?) or something else; so if your file list is too long the last added files wouldn't appear. CREATE MORE FOLDERS! Once you've cleaned up your file list with the usb connected to your computer, all your files should re-appear. If this doesn't work, and you have too many files then back-up the files and partition the abigs HDD.

... and I am waiting for a firmware, which supports H264 codec!!!

What I see about Sarotech until now, it is not very promising, to get a full functioning new firmware with H264 support .
It seems, there is now absolutly no support for the "old" model DVP-570HD.

Dunno if anyone's still readin this thread. anyway my hdd has died in dvp 570. Do i have to use an ide hdd or can i use a sata in this with a convertor cable?

They've stopped making ide now from what i can tell, although they can still be bought i am just wondering if abigs supports sata is this an upgrade or just stick to an ide?
