First of all apologies if this has been discussed or answered here before. I'm a little new to controlling A/V devices through a serial port and couldn't find much information on it.

So the question is... I have a AE900U projector with a serial port connection. I'm not sure what the behavior should be like on these... I looked through the manual. Connecting to the device using HyperTerminal...

Should this thing respond as a regular modem would? Or do i have to use some special software to control it?

Hyperterminal should work just fine - you'll have to get the serial protocol so you know what commands to use in order to connect, perform actions, etc.

of course, you could get a program with drivers for the projector already written if you don't want to go through the hassle of coding your own. Programs like Girder come to mind. It's the classic decision of spending your time or your $$ in order to accomplish your goals.
