I'm trying to help my brother hook up this DVD player to his Sceptre 37" LCD TV. We hooked it up via composite (RWY) and thru the menu chose (P-SCAN YPbPr). The dvd image disappeared and I assumed the component outputs would be active. Hooking the component section up resulted in no image at all (blue screen). That was a disappointment.

I tried to help him get the DVD player back to composite mode so we could check the menu, but it's locked out of this mode, too. GRR..

When you open the tray and press 0 it cycles thru the different video modes, but we were unable to get any picture thru the composite mode after switching back.

I was hoping it would work right the first time. I was a little disappointed when it didn't.

Any advice?

Composite and s-video are 480i only: no progressive. For progressive scan you need component, DVI or HDMI. I'm not familiar with either of your devices. If the display does not automatically detect the input signal then there must be some way to force it through the menus. Do the manuals for either device provide any help?

The LCD tv has 2 component inputs. If I hook up a component source, it should see it, right?

The DVD player has component out. I chose pscan in the video setup menu hoping that was the right setting.

I'm going to try calling magnavox today.
