I think I've narrowed my sub choice down to these two models and was looking for some advice. Could anyone tell me which the better performing sub would be? thanks, Rob

View Full Version : Mirage S12 or SVS PB10? RobDMB 02-03-07, 11:35 AM I think I've narrowed my sub choice down to these two models and was looking for some advice. Depending on your room size and personal tastes it is a close call. Also, price should be a major consideration. Could anyone tell me which the better performing sub would be? thanks, Rob Hey Rob, I am not familiar with the Mirage even in the slightest. But, I can tell you I have had a lot of experience with the PB-10. I can confidently say that it is VERY impressive when you consider the price. I am currently running a pair of PB -10s in my less than 2000 cubic foot room and I really only need one for 99% of the material. I go so far as to say you could probably count on a couple of fingers the subs in the world that can match or even come close to what the PB-10 does for under $500. It truly is a bargain. I bought them as a temporary solution while I wait for the new Ultras, but they are so effective I may just keep them permanently. If you are planning on using for HT, the in room extension in to the teens really comes into play... MWitt 02-04-07, 12:15 PM My friend has a PB-10 - I have an S-12. I prefer the sound of my S-12. I cannot say how much of my preference is due to setup of the different subs or differences in the rooms they are in. I feel the S-12 has more output on most material. This was my experience when demoing both units... mailiang 02-04-07, 12:52 PM My friend has a PB-10 - I have an S-12. I prefer the sound of my S-12. This was my experience when demoing both units... It is very difficult to compare two subs unless they are placed side by side in the same room. The Mirage produces anywhere from 3 to 5 db more output above 25 HZ. Under 25hz the PB10 really shines. At 20hz you can expect a least 5 db more output over the S-12. However in rooms under 4000 cu ft, with either sub there really is no compromise, unless you are going to listen at reference levels, which I personally, do not advise. :D Ian ;) jpmst3 02-04-07, 01:59 PM It is very difficult to compare two subs unless they are placed side by side in the same room. I am not sure about the Mirage, but at least you can try the PB-10 for 45 days. If there is a similiar option for the Mirage then order both. Then you can do some "real world" testing in your environment. You will be out some shipping if you return one but at least you won't be wondering if you made the right choice, that is if there is a right choice in this case... cneely8 02-05-07, 07:52 AM Another vote of confidence for the Mirage S-12. I own two of them (3000 cubic feet very opwn to about 2-3000 more). I have not heard the PB-10. My Mirage measures well in-room with individual bass test tones, pretty close to stated specs. |
