Hello all,

I just bought a Sony DVP-NC85H from Best Buy open box. I got a really good price so I bought it at the store, but now I am doing some research and I am debating whether to stick with this or not.

First, my setup. This DVD player will go upstairs where we mostly watch TV's but we will periodically watch some DVD's. Downstairs has the main DVD theatre setup. So upstairs we have a Sony 42" projection LCD TV with only one HDMI input. Right now we are using the HDMI input for HD satellite.

We currently have a progressive scan 5 disc changer that works fine, but we need to replace it because it is starting to fail. Although we don't really use the changer that often, we use it enough that it would be nice to have this available.

So here are my litany of questions. First, as I understand, the Sony will only upconvert on HDMI. Since HDTV broadcasts 1080i, I think we are better off leaving the HDTV on the HDMI. This means we either need to get an HDMI switcher or we need to buy a different DVD player.

We also have the Logitech Harmony remote controls so we want everything supported with the Logitech Harmony.

If we get a HDMI switcher, will there be any quality loss caused by the switcher? Any recommendations on a HDMI switcher?

If we do not go with a HDMI switcher, then is there a DVD player that can upscale on the component inputs that also has a 5 disc changer?

I guess the last option if none of the above would work is to get a upconverting single disk player that can upconvert on the component inputs.

Hmmm, Maybe I should take my TV in and get it replaced under warranty now. It has a few dead pixels and I am sure my replacement would have two HDMI inputs...

Any thoughts,
Kevin
