View Full Version : best online stores to buy HDDVD in canada
XavierYZ 02-03-07, 07:04 PM I am having a hard time finding movies locally and need to start ordering online, however I would like to order from sites within Canada, preferably Ontario
Any suggestions, I have searched google, but having a hard time other then Amazon.ca
There was one site that I came across last week, but I cant for the life of me find it again.
use AMAZON.COM
Yes, I know - its in US funds, but Canadian orders ship from within Canada..
so, you don't pay any tax, or duty.
With the dollar exchange, and shipping... if you buy 2 or 3 titles at a time, you really save quite a bit.
BuGsArEtAsTy 02-03-07, 08:30 PM The 10% deal has been extended until the end of 2007 at Amazon.com, even for Canadian orders.
I'm still surprised how they can get away with this no-tax deal too. Not only do they not charge tax, we don't get charged the tax by the shipper either. That goes for both PST and GST.
The only issue is the shipping isn't super cheap, but considering the tax saved and the 10% discount, it still ends up being much cheaper than most Canadian retailers, including Amazon.ca. The main problem is that sometimes it takes a long time for the discs to ship.
invadergir 02-04-07, 02:11 AM Well like they said go with Amazon.com for your orders. The pricing is overall a lot better then Canadian retailers. (Although some deals still can be found here and there) Our exchange rate is roughly $0.16 cents on the dollar right now and with us paying no taxes on the discs and duty charges it out to roughly like paying a 3% tax and a shipping charge. Overall the shipping is pretty fast as i seem to get mine in roughly 2-3 days. My last order took about a week and a few days but they had them on backorder for a very brief moment and held things up. Still great prices and pretty fast service considering how long some of the HD-DVDs take to get onto store shelves here
XavierYZ 02-04-07, 12:26 PM sounds great guys, thanks for the replies
aschnare 02-04-07, 12:44 PM Yeah, I've been using Amazon.com as well and if you get the 10% off deal and buy 3 discs at a time, it usually cancels out the shipping charge. Much better than going to Futureshop. I was in there the other day and noticed that they had Accepted for $50.99!
AMAZON.COM all the way. even with the exchange, you save big time especially when you factor in the pst and gst. Shipping is a non-issue since it is effectively cancelled out with the 10% discount. My orders have taken as little as three days and as much as five days--but never more than five days. And I use standard international shipping. Service is fantastic. Too bad AMAZON.CA cannot match the prices of AMAZON.COM. But then even if they did the pst and gst would cancel out the benefits anyway.
The Main Event 02-04-07, 01:45 PM I didn't really search regarding the 10% discount, but how do you get it? Is it a special promo code, or is it already included on every orders once you finalize it?
aschnare 02-04-07, 02:32 PM I know that you had to order at least 3 HD DVDs for your first order and then you would get it for a year. I forget if you had to enter a promo code or not. Something tells me that you did.

I don't believe the promo code works from outside of the USA. However, once you buy your first three DVDs, the 10% kicks in for a full year thereafter. And the 10% off deal applies to your very first order so it is instant savings
azmodien 02-05-07, 12:39 AM I don't understand. Does the 10% discount work for Canadians or not?
Thanks.

Yes it does but the promo has since past. The offer was only good until the beginning of the new year, but to anyone who did get in on the 10% code were given a full year extension to use it. Thankfully i got it last year and sure enough it still works on my orders this year
XavierYZ 02-13-07, 09:36 PM I just bought Lucky number slevin and Wolf Creek on HDDVD tonight, the confirmation email said it would be here March 12-17 which is a long time for delivery hopefully its sooner
I was going to buy The Departed but I can get it at futureshop for 39 and it would cost about the same as amazon and I would have to wait
I am going to start order titles from amazon that aren't in stores (or at least not around here)
Bestbuy and Futureshops selection is terrible for HD, compared to Blueray.

Go to Best Buy for the HD-DVD of The Departed its $33 i believe this week. As for the delivery time i just have to ay DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. I live near Hamilton and when they ship my order out i get the package in usually 3-4 days tops on basic standard shipping. Sure i'm close to the Cnd Amazon warehouse so its a bit faster but it shouldn't take more then a week at most for your order.
XavierYZ 02-14-07, 12:22 PM I just picked up The departed at Futureshop for 32Dollars, my local bestbuy didn't have it.
They have the worst selection of HDDVD
