I was about to pull the trigger on purchasing a D-Link DSM-520 this weekend, but after downloading and reading the manual I haven't been able to verify if it will worked with Networked Attached Storage Servers. I am looking for a solution that will allow me to access all of my ripped MP3's via my home theater. All of these are stored on network attached RAID5 servers.
So essentially I need a solution that will allow me to play directly from the network without loading any media servers on any computer. Video features would be nice, but not nearly as important as audio. Anyone have any recommendations?
You can read through some of the different product threads in this forum to get some ideas. The TViX 4000 ($250) and 5000 ($350) have gotten quite a bit of good reviews. I just ordered the 4000 from digitalconnection.com and a Infrant ReadyNAS for storage.
One thing to note, the TViX products seem to stream audio and std video fine via a SMB share, but have some reported issues with some HD content via SMB. If your NAS supports NFS shares, then it won't be a problem b/c their issues are via SMB shares only.
One reason the TViX products are getting positive reviews is because their firmware is more mature than others (I think almost 2 yrs) and they release firmware updates regularly. They are also receptive to user feedback and requests.

Chad-R,
Thanks for the tip, I am reading the 4000's manual right now. My servers can share SMB or NFS, it doesn't matter. I am also reading up on the XBOX options, I have one laying around that isn't doing anything, it may be a solution I wasn't even aware of.
Just another heads-up... I suspect the TViX manuals are going to be "out-of-date" for some things. They are frequently releasing firmware updates with additional features as well as working out issues.
