Recently bought a NEW Onkyo A/V 7.1 Receiver and it came with a BIG, Ugly, supposed to be ONE Contols ALL Remote.................WRONG!!! So I got the bug to maybe actually purchase a TRUE Universal Remote.....decided to do some "research"...............next thing after MUCHO "research" I made the plunge and ordered a Harmony 550 the other day. I asked several times IF others thought that it would be able to do EVERYTHING that that Onkyo Remote does and everything that my DISH Remote does for me.....and what responses there were were positive. BUT - I sure HOPE that I am wrong, [$75 dollars later], I will believe it when I "sees" it............which will be in maybe 2 days more - then I will report back. BOTH of those remotes do offer ALOT of various Control - and I am going to be really surprised IF this 550 will be able to duplicate them all for me.

Laters Taters! ;)

You don't have the Harmony yet and already have doubts? If your device is IR, the Harmony will either already know the commands or you can teach the Harmony.

I've been lurking at this site for some time now and finally decided to contribute.

I too own an Onkyo reciever(HT-504 I believe) and wanted a remote that could control it along with my Comcast HD-DVR and brand new Samsung DLP(Dont know how I lived without it!) I studied here for weeks and I too bought the Harmony 550.

I've only had the remote for 3 days now, but I love it! I had no trouble setting it up, even though I read what a pain it was. Everything seems to work just the way I want it and I havent found a command that wasnt already in the database. I am still tweaking and moving some buttons, but the remote works wonderfully.

I am confident this remote will work for you too.

THANKS Rexdog - for sharing that with me, makes me feel better as I wait for mine - supposed to be delivered on the 7th. I just posted this thread I guess, out of boredom as I wait and out of GUILT - for purchasing something that I really could not afford but got caught up in the "search" etc. and ended up buying this BUT at the same time have been skeptical that it will really "fill the bill" as most if not all believe that it will. Anyway, because of mainly the first reason - I have been "kicking my butt" for going further in debt for something that I really do NOT HAVE TO HAVE. Too late now.........and from what you say, sounds like I too will be GLAD that I bought it and will be able to store3-4 remotes.

THANKS! Michael ;)

Once you get used to the Harmony and set up things, you'll most likely wonder why you didn't get a universal remote earlier.
