Hi All,

I am looking for a good media streaming device. I have a HDTV, with HK AVR635


Here are the activies I mostly do:
Listen to music (mp3s are rare), mostly FLAC for high audio quality.
Watch movies (DVDs) and HDDVDs
Watch Music DVDs
View my pictures.

Currently, I have a xbox360, and I use it mainly for gaming, however I am little disappointed with this stream capabalities, considering I use Linux for all of my day-to-day operations.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I just spent the last couple months researching these streamers. I found that most that do video streaming don't do music well. i.e. Most don't allow you to browse your collection during playback. I also didn't want to have the TV on for music. Only the Zensonic Z500 came close, and it is reported as being unstable. I wasn't willing to take a chance on it.

So... I gave up and opted for the SlimDevices Squeezebox. I just received it Friday, and I had it up and running in less than 20 minutes, including setting up a new wireless router. So far, I absolutely love it. I've spent much of the weekend re-ripping our CDs to FLAC. The Squeezebox is audio only (absolutely no video output), but the built in display and interface are very easy to use, and pretty slick IMO.

That said, I do think we're getting close to having everything in one box. I just wasn't willing to wait, when I only wanted video as a bonus feature. If I had to have video, I'd probably consider a Tvix M5000 or M4000 combined with the Roku Soundbridge (has been onsale for $149, direct from Roku; half the cost of the Squeezebox), and settle on having two boxes to get the ultimate experience. Otherwise, a modded Xbox with XBMC was looking to be the best (albeit non-HD) solution.

Looks like I may wait then. No product really shines, and I got too many recommendations to mod my old xbox.

I don't own the games nor want to soldier anything to mod by Xbox(1)
