I just bought a 65 1080p mits and have it hooked up to my pc through dvi....and it seems that all my games have a widescreen mode as well as support 1080 except fear. It runs at some kinda of strange res like 1920X1080X256 or something like that and it lacks a widescreen mode. Is there anyway to get around this? I have downloaded all the lastest patchs I believe....is there a way around or is this it?

You can set the resolution to whatever you like. Go to where you have Fear installed. Open "user directory" folder. Open the "settings cgf file" with notepad. Change Screen width and Screen hight to whatever you prefer. Save. When you go into the game it should be at whatever you set it to. Good luck!

Two of the most popular games out recently lack widescreen support.....FEAR and Battlefield2, though both are hackable in that you can get them to run in widescreen without incident. See the top post stickied on this board, it'll point you do the current widescreen gaming list and how to enable widescreen resolution in your games.

I just started playing fear - it actually had my 1216x684 resolution in the list - did I miss something about an extra widescreen flag? I'll check later when I get back to it...

Yep, just noticed that I could pick 1920x1200 in the video settings. Did this just show up in the 1.08 update?

Yes, widescreen support was added in the 1.08 update. But note, the widescreen resolutions aren't optimized, so the FOV is still screwed up.

This update basically allows you to pick whatever widescreen resolution you need, instead of using the hack method, but acts the same.

As usual, EA is still way behind.

Yeah and that should definately be noted.....being able to plug in a widescreen mode is only half of the equation.

Being able to change the Field of Vision to accomodate that new screen dimension is the other.

Fire up Doom 3 and change it from 4:3 to 16:9 or 16:10. You see more info on the sides.

But now adjust the FOV....all of a sudden you can see a TON more onscreen....its like going "WOW!".....now that makes the widescreen image really work.

Playing BF2 widescreen (cropped) is nice and all, but I'd really like to be able to adjust my FOV to compensate..and can't. Same thing with Fear.

Fear shows more on the sides like Doom3, not cropped like BF2. See example pics here (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php?title=F.E.A.R.).

Also, EA has nothing to do with Fear.

The EA comment had to do with HeadRusch's post. (Post #3)

It wasn't a knock towards F.E.A.R., at least that development team implemented the ability to at least select widescreen resolutions.

But I will knock F.E.A.R., because if you look at the sides of the screen, everything is stretched. Kind of like the stretch feature of Mitsubishi HDTVs. It's by far the best way to stretch 4:3 material, but it still isn't true 16:9 or 16:10.

It's not $:3 stretched by any means though. If you look at the shots in the link I posted you will see that the counch on the left is only visiable in the widescreen shot (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:Fear-wide.jpg) , even though the radiator on the right is about the same distance from the edge on both the widescreen and the 4:3 shot (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:Fear-full.jpg) .

You're right, it's not a simple 4:3 stretch. The center of the screen is fine, but the edges are stretched.

It's very easy to notice at the beginning of the game, when the three people are talking to you. When you look around, you'll notice their heads become stretched at the sides of your screen.

It's not that bad, but it isn't correct either.

If you get the fisheye effect it must be the Field of View is skewed oddly when you force a widescreen resolution...???
