I just recently purchased a plasma tv, and am looking to improve the sound from it. I do not have a home audio system, and really do not care to have one. What I am looking for is to hook a surround sound system that will work the tv, but want to keep the $ down to a minimum. My living room is fairly small (about 12x15) so a super high output system isn't necessary. Would just like to improve the sound slightly and get more bass. What would you all suggest? I am no audiophile and cannot hear all the basic impurities that others hear. So going for a high $ system will end up netting me nothing. Hopefully someone can assist me in this. Thanks

How much are you willing to spend? You could always go with a home theater in a box solution like the Onkyo (http://shoponkyo.com/detail.cfm?productid=HT-S590&modelid=88&group_id=1&detail=1&ext_war=1) .

Are you actually looking for surround sound (5 or more speakers)? Or do you really just want to "improve the sound slightly and get more bass", which can be done with a decent stereo system (2 speakers + subwoofer)?

Of the two posts above, I think I am in the market for an "in box system". That seems to be what I had in mind. Is there a fairly inexpensive one ($250 or less) that would fit the bill nicely? Or are they all pretty much the same in that price range?

the Onkyo 5.1 system is $249 when I just checked Circuit City's website. The link I put in my post above is for a refurb system thru Onkyo for $169. There's a number of systems in this price range that sound like crap, but the Onkyo sounds great. For more info go to the "home theater in a box" section on avsforum. Look for the Onkyo 590. You'll see a lot of posts on the Onkyo 790 which is the 7 speaker version and costs about $150 more than the 590.
