This is one HD DVD that I do not own despite the fact that it is one of my favorite movies. I really want to buy it.

I know it has a TrueHD track, BUT HOW IS THE PQ?

I believe the PQ hangs in there with the best, despite the "Tier Thread". One of my favorites, it's in my top tier...

I own Troy and I am very happy with the HD DVD! The sound is insane and the picture quality is awesome too. Compared with the Tier 0 titles, the picture may be a tad softer......but it's not bad in any way.

Some of the the scenes are quite stunning. A big step up from the DVD.

Troy was good but it does not compare with the best HD DVD's IMO . It offers some scenes that look fantastic while most of the film is simply good (far superior to the SD DVD as stated above) . The audio is well done but does not offer the sonic impact of some of the other TrueHD tracks IMO .

The quality is great, meaning it's a great transfer, however the picture quality may not WOW you and and your friends the way Hulk or Seabiscuit would. Troy was filmed with a very stylized imagery so to most people, it won't be reference material.

Troy was the very first HD DVD I bought and 80+ titles later, I think the pq still competes with the best. If you like the movie it belongs in your library, so go get it already. ;)

Best HD DVD ever.

It's a good transfer. there are many better looking hd-dvds.

It looks great and includes IME plus a trueHD track. If you really owned 107 titles, I can't imagine why you would stop to justify a top-notch release like Troy. Not to mention that it's "one of your favorite movies."

I'd put it in Tier 2. It's nice to see all the intricate details in the armor.

That is the very reason I am afraid to buy it! I don't want to be hyped up and suffer a let down! :o

Maybe I read too many reviews. I almost didn't buy "Posiedon" because of some members who claimed the PQ was soft...but I bought it anyway because the wife wanted to see it; and guess what? I loved it! Great PQ and AQ. :)

Oh what the heck, I'll have my assistant buy it tomorrow.

Hey, thanks a lot guys! :)

I keep going 'back and forth' on this one, but will probably get it for the PQ/AQ.

The way that the "Epic Cycle" and primarily the "Iliad" was butchered by the movie makes several scenes difficult to watch. But, like any movie made from a great book, there are almost always 'liberties' taken in the movie production.

I watched it on a 120" screen at home and I have to that is is pretty good, tier 1 maybe 2 at most. My other HDDVDs all look better but thats not really saying much bad. If you watching it on a 60" inch or smaller you will probably love it's PQ.

According to inofficial sources Wolfgang Petersen has finished his director´s cut of "Troy" and wants to show it at this years "Berlinale"-Film festival.

This is according to someone from a german film forum who spoke to Petersen a couple of days ago.

Really? I didn't hear about this yet. I wonder if this is a 10 min of extra footage worthless DC or a 40 min of new footage DC. As long as troy is, it felt rushed to me.

Oh good God, can't a movie just be a movie? Why not watch it for the entertainment value, it's not like they dishonered your family by not being true to a book.

I thought the pacing was just right. A movie like Kingdom of Heaven was rushed in theatrical form.

I think it a big step up from the SD-DVD. I was glad I double-dipped on this title.

Suffer a letdown? Having seen "Casablanca" a million times, I saw it for the first time on HD--I mean really saw it. I was floored by the clarity and detail. But, by the end of the film my wife and I stopped noticing that and were pulled into the film. Isn't that what it's all about? "Troy" was one of my first HD DVDs and the only one I purchased at a B&M. It is great. :) P.S. My assistant wrote this. ;)

After the first hour or so I finally got used to the fact that Bradd Pitt was supposed to be a fearless warrior who is really strong and began looking at the PQ which seemed decent, but no better than some upscaled SD DVDs like The Island. In fact The Island in SD DVD upscaled looked better to my eyes...................or, I just liked the movie better. One or the other.

Good, but not great. I thought Brad was ok/believable as Achilles -- not exactly Mr. Personality in legend either ;). The movie was entertaining, photography was new (not a bad master) and the sound was good (16 bit TrueHD). Worth buying IMHO.

I'd say the picture quality was generally good, but not great. The prints are not the cleanest, nor are always in the best focus.

I thought the transfer was excellent. The image is in fact a little soft, but due to the way it was filmed, nothing more (at least, it looks very natural to me). A big step up over the DVD, and a purchase I don't regret at all, even as I move away from the format.

I came to the conclusion that reviews are nice for some input, but ultimately I still have to decide how it looks like. To date I have never seen an HD movie ever look inferior to a SD and I doubt I ever will. With that in mind I just buy the movies I like or possibly will like in HD. It doesn't matter to me what level of Tier it is. As for Troy I thought that movie looked great and the audio was well done considering that it is not a Sci Fi shooter with lots of explosions. :D

One of my favorite movies, but I think the PQ is hit or miss.

Indoor scenes and night scenes look great, outdoor daylight scenes look barely discernible from SD-DVD. I was honestly surprised to see so many people praise it. I thought it was going to get ripped to shreds.

Yes. I use others' opinions for guidance, but ultimately I like what I like. If I like something, then all the opinions to the contrary matter little to me--and vice-versa.
