Ordered my Ascends(340's), want to add a sub. Was about to order the HSU VTF 3MK2, but I suddenly discovered a local merchant importing SVS (in the Netherlands). Should I compare it to the SVS PB 12 NSD? Last one will cost me 950 euro's, 325 watts (I assume RMS, peak I don't know), 4 inch port (one?). Both have of course the 12 inchers, the HSU 350 RMS (negligible I guess), 1400 peak, 18/22 hz, ports? Estimated price importing it will be around 890 euro ( 1154 USD- I know it's a lot, but REL which is often used here is more expensive-). Used for movies and music in 60/40 %. From what I have read can't go wrong on either one, but are ther other things I have to consider in choosing?

This thread may help you out...but much of it is about the mk3 versions of the Hsu...

See here for some spec differences on the MkII versus the MkIII (post #69):

The VTF-3 MkII and the VTF-2 MkIII are just about the same unit.

Ok since anyone know both HSU and SVS have some great subs.

I would vote for the HSU VTF3HO,as the best sub under $1000US. Flat across the line, superb measured performance, confirmed in listening. Almost too damn good for its price range!

If it costs a bit more in Europe,I think it is still worth the extra expense.A great sub can follow you for a long time.

VTF3.2 vs. PB12NSD is pretty close...very close. Pick the one that fits the best with your situation. Both are very good and the sonic differences are minimal. You'd really have to have them both in room at the same time to decide which impressed you more and then it would be taste. Get the best deal you can.

Just remember that different brand subs sound different. I'd suggest the HSU, like TheEAR suggested.

And others of us prefer the SVS sound. It's a matter of personal preference, not objective fact.

In general, I agree with Ron Temple. Whichever you choose, you will have a fine sub.

Unless of course you can listen to both side by side.

Unless of course you can listen to both side by side.

wouldn't that, by definition, make it personal preference?
