For a 42" display, 6' or less is recommended. This assumes a high-definition display. For a lower-resolution display, like the Panasonic 42" plasma with sub-HD resolution, a 7-8' viewing distance is perfect. Lodrin 02-05-07, 08:06 PM 42" is just right for 7 to 8ft. why2not 02-05-07, 08:14 PM Any possibility of sitting that close to a 42 panny plasma? sounds ok to me... why would there be an issue? danny40 02-05-07, 08:33 PM OK, THANKS SO MUCH, NOW PART TWO i AM CONSIDERING THE SCEPTRE KMOMDO LCD BECAUSE OF THE PRICE DIFFERENCE AND DEFINITELY WANT TO BUY FROM COSTCO WHAT WOULD THE BEST CHOICE BE AROUND THE PRICE RANGE OF A 1000. THANKS AGAIN YOU GUYS ARE GOOD. conan48 02-06-07, 11:32 AM Stop righting in CAPS or no one will help you. dlconner 02-06-07, 12:28 PM Any possibility of sitting that close to a 42 panny plasma? Easily. At 8ft I would be tempted to try a 50" even :) dlconner 02-06-07, 12:31 PM Give a little more information. Your viewing distance is 7-8ft. Can you control your lighting? Do you vary content much? Do you game obsessively? In that price range, visio makes some pretty decent LCD/plasma's in the 42" range. I would definately give those a look. If you can control your lighting in the room and vary your content, then a plasma would be great. If you plan on using it primarily for gaming, you may want to check out the LCD. Pat6366 02-06-07, 12:38 PM I think you'd be happier if you stepped up to a 50". When I was researching what size Sony RP to buy to be viewed 8'-10' away, most people suggested 50" but I went with a 60 and am very glad I did. Grab a tape measure and go to you favorite store and compare. Pat RandyWalters 02-07-07, 01:32 PM 7 to 8 ft away - Any possibility of sitting that close to a 42 panny plasma? That happens to be my personal threshold. I see the SDE on my 42" Panny HD Plasma at 7 feet, but at 8 feet it goes away and the image smooths out (i sit 8-9 feet away). I'm more aware/sensitive to SDE than anybody else i know, but you should make absolute sure you cannot see SDE at 7 feet before buying anything. Or SDE may not bother you then it would be a non-issue. My friend's 50" PX60U looks like crap to my eyes at 7 feet, or 8 feet for that matter. It starts to look good at about 10 feet. Others think it looks great at 7 feet so again it's up to your particular eyesight (or your superior other's eyesight). Take a measuring tape to various stores and take notes at your viewing distance. tt18cabrio 02-07-07, 02:25 PM I guess it's easy asking the question since I do not have a 50" plasma "yet". I do own a nice 32" CRT that we are viewing from about 8-9 feet from. When this was purchased 7 years ago there was a chart that listed the distances and this "little 32" CRT" was within the proper distance for our couch. Now people question if a 50" is large enough for that same distance. Yup, I'd love to buy the largest picture made but I can't and our home just isn't that big. What am I missing when getting a picture which is at least 70% bigger than what I own is thought to be too small? tia dlconner 02-08-07, 11:49 AM I guess it's easy asking the question since I do not have a 50" plasma "yet". I went from a 27" CRT to my pioneer 5071HD at ~8-11ft depending on where I sit. I couldn't be happier. I could have gone bigger for the distance, but the 5070/1 pricing is at a sweet spot compared to the 6070/1. No regrets here, just an awesome looking display. tt18cabrio 02-08-07, 01:02 PM I'm looking at either the 5070 ot the 50" NEC and I think this size will be perfect for the setting. I agree with you on the pricing and I just don't think I'll have buyers remorse over NOT getting a larger screen. Thanks! dg dlconner 02-08-07, 01:57 PM I'm looking at either the 5070 ot the 50" NEC and I think this size will be perfect for the setting. Last years models seemed a little to sensitive to Image Retention for my likings.... GnatGoSplat 02-08-07, 02:45 PM A 60" display is typically recommended for viewing from 8'. Dang, you guys make me feel like my TV is too small and insignificant! :D My viewing distance is 10'. I started out with a 27" Trinitron. Then switched to a 32" flat CRT, I thought that was big! Then went to a 42" Panasonic EDTV, it seemed huge! Now I have a 50" Panasonic HDTV and it was ginormous! But now you say that's too small? I guess you're right, I've had the 50" for almost 2-months and have become accustomed to its size, it no longer feels ginormous. I can't wait till Panasonic brings down the price on their 1080p 65" plasma (way, way down). Raprider 02-09-07, 06:24 PM I just went from a 32" tube to a Panny 42" at 10 feet. I might have gone to 50, but am saving my moola for when I finish the bsmnt and get a projector. This one won't get as much use then. rap |
