This was taken from the movie PULSE...

The graph says it all.... My only question is, what subwoofer set up can really handle this! I know my PB-12NSD was CHUFFING like crazy and I can see why...15-20hz bass like CRAZY!! Reall the PINK in the 17-18hz range is probably the most powerful Pulse Waterfall Graph (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9693949&&#post9693949)

I thought I was the only one to notice that the entire movie was 1 big deep bass note. Too bad the movie was freakin terrible. Did like the bass though.

Kewl. I will try to suffer through it for the demo. Thanks for posting.

I posted about the movie in another thread. Most bass in our room ever. Even my wife made a comment about how no other movie had this much bass. My Hsu handled it just fine.

I've seen much worse.

What HSU do you have.

In order to get that ANNOYING CHUFFING of air to go away from that scene I basically had to turn the sub gain down to almost not on....

I played it on a STF3 that is in Max Extention mode.

and you had no chuffing out of your port?

That sub you have is tuned to 25hz....it cannot even really touch the deepest stuff....it gets rolled off with its highpass subsonic filter doesn't it?

aside from that....
Is the CHUFFING sound of the air caused by only having a SINGLE 4inch Port??? Just not enough port space/volume to move that much air???

Trust me, It shook the HELL ouf of my room, I just hated HEARING that 17-18hz AIR trying to push through the port....

No, but the MV was on -16 I think so maybe I have to try to up the volume next time. It was still very loud though.

How loud were you listening?

My master Volume was at -8db....I like it to be loud like a movie theater :)

---no wife or kids to tell me I can't do that either :D

Did you have it custom-tuned before it was shipped to you? IIRC, the STFs come standard in Max Output tuning, 25Hz. You have to get the VTF to get the tuning options.

Actually, he said his STF-3 is mod'd for max extension, which means it's tuned to about 18Hz IIRC, about +/- 2dB (cost like $50 to have Hsu do it) and rolls off from there...

The first batch was tuned to Max Ext. I was lucky! :D No extra peso. :D :D

Try it at -8db and report back....I'd be surprised if it doesn't chuff a little...

I know it has 2 ports....what are the sizes? Dual 3inch?

It also depends on the efficiency of your speakers. -8 may not be much higher - what speakers do you have?

SVS speakers....SBS-01 and the SCS-01

I know they are not the most sensitive speakers on the market...if my memory serves me right I think 86 or 87 sensitivity...

Willie ....when you move up a level like I did it opens your eyes to some new bass and even better bass...

tdamocles....The demo is the movie itself....

Believe it or not that was the first time I experienced any port noise or chuffing from my modest :D Velodyne VRP sub. But I have it calibrated pretty accurately. ;) Except for the bass, the over all volume of the audio track was rather low and to compensate I had to raise the main volume control a few db higher then it normally would be. The extra output level may have contributed to the problem with that very hefty bass scene. I lowered the line level output by 6db and it was fine. The only other DVD I noticed a similar problem with recently was a short low blast at the end of the falling sequence of Crank.
