I'm leaning toward buying a PB12-NSD. Does anyone here own one and can you tell me what you like or don't like about it? I'll be using it 50-50 for movies and music. Thanks.

How many of the other threads and review threads have you read so far? There is lots about this sub on the craigsub review thread and elsewhere.

And what other subs have you considered? Anything from Hsu, Rocket/AV123, etc.?

ya, there are TONS of subs out there.

Why are you leaning towards the PB-12NSD... (I should tell you I do own one.)

First we all need some information from you....What is your budget? What is your room size? What are your listening habits?

I myself am looking as well and have found tons of info that says the PB12-NSD is a great sub. Its cylinder equivalent is the 20-39PCi according to SVS.

For HSU subs in the same performance/price range have a look at the STF-3 VTF2.3or VTF3.3

Cyberbri, I'm probably looking at STF-3 or VTF2.3 which are the same size as your sub, or if the smaller footprint of a cylinder works better ...the 20-39PCi. How do you find the physical size of you sub to be??

I have the VTF-3.2, which is the same size and uses the same driver as the newer VTF-2.3. The amp in the 2.3 is 250w rather than 350w.

My room is medium~large, about 14' wide by 18' deep, with a step up and a walkway from the front door to the dining room in the back of the room. It doesn't seem big within this room. Actually I have it on its side, down-firing driver facing the wall, ports firing into front right corner. It's pretty unassuming. You're welcome to check out my gallery if you haven't already.

The PB12-NSD does look like a great sub, with good performance on music as well. Personally, articulation, detail and clarity are important to me, and in that aspect the Hsu subs, along with ACI and AV123 (Rocket subs) have the edge according to people who have tested and compared.

I also have a few bass traps (wanat to DIY build more) and an eq, which I think is crucial to getting the most out of a sub. If I was going to buy something now, I could get the VTF2.3 and a BFD eq (what I have now) and a few bass traps for almost the price I paid for the 3.2 last summer. I'd definitely do that instead of getting a bigger sub if I knew I wouldn't be buying anything else. But now, I'd definitely go for the 3.3, with bass traps and an eq. I might also test drive a UFW-12 from Rocket/AV123.

The smaller footprint for the tube subs from SVS works if you are either putting it behind something so it can't be seen, or you want to have it out as a conversation piece, etc. Often wives/SOs don't like the looks of the tubes. (imagine if they had nice finishes rather than the black carpet..., and were wider and could be used as end tables or something...)

I own one, bought in September right after the revised version came out. Mine is in the white finish.

What I like:
- Nice build quality
- Superb customer service from Ron, Tom, Ed, and others
- Good price, reasonable shipping cost
- Phase control fully variable from 0 through 180 degrees
- Driver and port mounted on the same panel makes placement easier
- Very powerful deep bass actually rattled the walls in my neighbor's house

What I don't like:
- Not enough dynamic headroom for my large open room
- Not enough mid-bass impact for my tastes
- Not quite as articulate and musical as I had hoped
