View Full Version : HDTV Models With HDMI 1.3
henry_the_horse 02-06-07, 12:41 AM After doing a ton of research I can't seem to find any HDTVs that will have HDMI 1.3 or when the first models with it will be released. All I've found are general CES 07 news or announcements from the official HDMI organization stating either "early 2007" or "Q1 2007" will see the first displays, players, etc with HDMI 1.3, but no specific HDTV models.
So the purpose of this thread is to gather as many HDTV models that have been announced to carry HDMI 1.3 and if possible the TVs release date, price, specs or a link to that information. Please feel free to post these things if they haven't already been touched on here.
Note: this is dedicated only to inform about which HDTVs have HDMI 1.3 and not debating the specs of the new HDMI technology or whether or not one should wait for a TV with it or if it's necessary, etc, etc, etc. Thanks.
What, specifically, from HDMI 1.3 do you actually want?
Deeper color? How deep?
The new uncompressed hi-res audio formats? Which? And why would a TV be useful for those?
Dialog timing adjustment negotiation? For what kinds of sources?
If you need a TV now, you can buy a TV now, and in a few years, when sources and media have caught up to the new features, you can buy a new TV (which then will have come down in price compared to the next few months).

I edited my original response to keep this thread on topic. But to sum things up I'm interested in which HDTVs releasing during 2007 will have HDMI 1.3 since there currently aren't any models being sold with this technology. And I figured as I find information on this why not compile it all in one spot (here).
henry_the_horse 02-07-07, 12:24 PM Toshiba HDTVs with HDMI 1.3 due out by mid-2007.
"Finally, it has updated its Cinema Series in 42-, 46-, 52- and 57-inch models. All include ClearFrame 120Hz anti-motion blur technology, THINC Ethernet port and HDMI 1.3 connectors with Deep Color and xvYCC support. The 1080p Regzas are due in June or July, with the exception of the updated 42-inch, which should come a month earlier."

henry_the_horse 02-08-07, 02:51 PM Samsung has two series announced for 2007 with HDMI 1.3.
LCD 1080p models:
"The 65F series brings 1080p resolution, SuperClear panels for 12,000:1 contrast ratio, USB 2.0 and 3 HDMI 1.3 connections. The LN-T4065F, LN-T4665F and LN-T5265F don't have prices or release dates yet, but we hope to find out more about these most advanced LCDs soon."
...and...
Plasma 1080p models:
"* HP-T5894W: 58-inch (wireless, 1080p, HDMI 1.3 w/ CEC, 10,000:1 contrast ratio), September, $5,699
* HP-T5884: 58-inch (1080p, HDMI 1.3, 10,000:1 contrast ratio), September, $5,199

henry_the_horse 02-09-07, 02:05 PM This article is from 10/06 so it's a bit old now and it doesn't state any exact models or prices but in its final sentence it confirms that LG Electronics, Mitsubishi, Samsung, Sharp, and "others" have promised HDMI 1.3 sets for 2007.

And for the extremely small amount of people that can afford it, Sony announced their ultra expensive $33,000 HDTV which will have HDMI 1.3. It's supposed to be released very shortly and it is already pre-orderable. Despite the price I'm sure this HDTV will be among the best looking LCDs available, their current XBR models already are. But I'm surprised that Sony hasn't announced any other models yet (especially those on the more affordable side) with HDMI 1.3 since they're one of the main founders and pushers of the technology and their PS3 is already equipped with it (I believe the first product on the market with it too).

henry_the_horse 03-01-07, 02:22 PM I haven't posted new stuff in a while simply because there hasn't been any new news on HDTV sets with HDMI 1.3. Below is the link to a good article touching on the features of 2007 Sony sets which will start rolling out on March 15th with their KDS-A2020 series and end in the later half of this year with their new XBR series sets. Unfortunately the article only speculates that the XBR series will have HDMI 1.3 (since it's Sony's high end series the speculation is probably correct) and also mentions that Sony may not even comment on the new XBRs until June. So who knows how late into 2007 it'll be before we see them?
"If last year is any indication, I expect Sony to announce details on the step-up XBR series of SXRDs around June, or perhaps a couple weeks earlier."
...
"True HDTV fans are also asking, "What about HDMI 1.3?" Sony's rep told me they're "not talking" about that feature. I believe that's because the company would rather push its own branded features that depend on 1.3, such as wider color space, than refer to a generic feature. Whatever the reasoning, I don't believe any of the A2020 sets have HDMI 1.3, but I'm fairly certain the upcoming XBR models will. Since Sony isn't talking, we can't confirm yet."

henry_the_horse 03-14-07, 02:04 PM Haven't found any new models, but may have stubbled across something better. Of all the HDTV models announced for 2007 with HDMI 1.3 the one I've been keeping the closest eye on is Toshiba's 42LX177. The site crutchfield has listed the 42LX177 (price previously unreleased) with a price of $2,299.99. And as far as I can tell this update is less than 24 hours old.
