In the interest of creating a list of all HD stations and their broadcast resolutions, I compiled those that I could find. Some of these stations will only apply to either satellite or cable. You'll need to check with your provider for a listing of which stations they carry.

After creating this list, I found that AVS has a very comprehensive list located here: The Official AVS HDTV Programming Synopsis – Winter 2006! (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=164671)

Here's a "Which is better: 1080i or 720p" thread discussing the differences between outputting 720p or 1080i depending on which type of display you have:

Direct link to 1080p display post (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9735584&&#post9735584)

If you think of a station I left out, please let me know the station and resolution and I'll add them to the list.
Thanks.

The good thing about a cablecard is that I don't need to guess. ;)
If I had those channels I would confirm but alas, I do not. :(

Yes, if you are able to set your output to pass-through it cuts out the need to find the resolution being broadcast and change the output to match. I'm guessing cablecards do this? My DTV HR10-250 won't allow this, therefore I switch output resolution depending on the station.

I have the Motorola 6412 III, it is a 2 tuner, HD DVR, with HDMI.

Do you know if this has the "pass-through" option?

Thanks

I've heard none of the Moto boxes do pass-through. Best way to know for sure is to review your manual though. If you can't find it, you can find them at http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/home_entertainment.asp

MOD - Sorry, I intended this thread to go in the Flat Panel General forum. If you can move this that'd be great.

i have a question. in the case of ABC, the list has it listed under broadcasting in 720p. i'm sure i'll have to check with my provider first, but does this typically mean that *ALL* shows, etc. on ABC will be broadcasted in 720p? no 1080i? or is this dependent on what the program is?

The 720p and 1080i information for cable & broadcast is already provided in the HDTV Programming forum along with a lot of other info about HD programs.

As for the ABC question, no one switches the broadcast format on the fly on a regular basis. The HD broadcast network local stations and the cable channels are either 720p or 1080i and stay that way. Or 480p 16:9 if someone were to broadcast on that format again.

There are a few exceptions, such as the mid-day soaps, late night TV, and [soon] the national news.

The rest of the time, SD content is run through an 480i->720p or 480i->1080i upconverter by your local affiliate. So while true high-def content is only offered during certain hours, the signal itself to your TV is always 720p or 1080i.

According to the diagnostic display on my SA 8300, A&E HD broadcasts at 720p.

All those HD Channels and my cable co only carries about 6 of them outside of the local HD channels. :(

When are stations required to be HD?

Sigh this just reminds me that when Comcast took over Adelphia in my area they got rid of my beloved HDNet and HDNet Movies....replacing them with Music in HD and Universal HD.
