View Full Version : Xvid/Divx on Buffalo Linktheater

I have been using my Linktheater for some time now as a DVD jukebox, with my DVD collection ripped to a Terastation. To get seamless playback, I have ripped them to a single large VOB. However, I would also like to stream these files to a PC, but cannot as the PC does not seem to be able to deal with large (>1GB) VOBs.

To circumvent this problem, I have experimented with re-encoding the VOBs into Divx and Xvid formats using AutoGK, set at the highest target quality (100%), as I don't care about file size. I would prefer to use Xvid, as it is free, however there is a subtle jerkiness or stuttering of the Xvid playback on the Linktheater during fast motion scenes. The Divx (6) encodes playback smoothly, but I would prefer not to use the Divx as it is not free.

Questions:
1. Have others seen stuttering with Xvid encodes on the Linktheater? If so, is there a fix? I have spent some time searching for a fix, but most of the fixes seem to deal with playback on a PC. On my PC, the Xvid playback does appear smooth.

2. Is there a free version of Divx which works well, if I decide to go this route instead?

3. Is there any workaround for the large VOB playback issue on PCs? I found the problem detailed on the Microsoft website (I have Windows XP), but no solution offered.

Any insights would be appreciated.
