I have a Pansonic 7 series 50" plasma. I currently use the component video input, but am interested in switching to an HDMI input. It's my understanding that the TYFB7HM is the blade I must use for an HDMI input in this plasma. I've read that the blade shows only 540 lines of the 1080i signal. It's not clear if the writer doesn't understand that a 1080i signal is a 540 line signal and then another 540 line signal. However, if the blade only provides half the information needed to display a true 1080i signal, it's not worth converting to HDMI. Does anyone have an authoritative answer to this issue?

The TY-FB7HM is the same basic design and chipset as the TY-FB8HM. As some have reported on this forum, side by side tests of the two showed identical PQ, which should be expected.

If you want HDMI in your model, this is the only way unless you only wanted video in which case you could use a DVI board TY-42TM6D and an HDMI-DVI adapter.
It probably would not buy any increase in PQ but would allow native resolution of 1366 x 768 if you would ever consider an external scaler.

HDMI does not support native res.

Thank you for your response. Does this mean that the signal would not be as good as a compnent signal?

Depending on the source it'll be better (HDMI).

And yes, I did compare the TY-FB7HM against a TY-FB8HM for hours. I COULD NOT see a difference in PQ.

Ah HAH, I knew I saw it here somewhere. Thanks BruZZi as always.
