I'm strongly considering buying a PS3 for games and BD playback but have a question as it relates to my particular setup. My component closet is across the hall from my HT where I will be playing games. As of now, my plan was to put the PS3 in the component closet across the hall but am concerned the controller might be out of range - it would be about 20 feet from where I would be sitting and behind two doors (closet and HT doors). Would this work?

It will work, in my apartment i am about 100 feet away from the PS3 in my bedroom and still controls the console just fine :)

P.S this was done as a test only, I was unable to play games since the TV was in another room :p

Thanks for the input. Good to see the maximum range appears to be farther. My only concern is with game play and running through the two doors on a regular basis. I hate wireless reception issues but haven't had too much experience with Bluetooth.

Anybody running a similar setup "full time" and have some feedback?

The range of any Bluetooth device is 30 feet. It will probably go much further as GW-SMOkey pointed out, but i wouldn't go farther than 30 feet if you want a good connection without interference.

Is the 30 foot range regardless of walls and door ways? If so, I should be covered - 20 to 25 feet max in my setup.

I would imagine wooden walls should be fine especially at 20-25 feet. If it was metal walls then I would be concerned.

Thanks Mobius - wood walls and wood doors - should be good to go. Now I just need to talk the wife into taking advantage of the Gamestop PS2 trade in special rather than waiting the next two months. ;)

The hard part - "The Wife Factor". I feel for you. I also have two opions but only one counts and its not usually mine. Good luck!

I tested my controller by taking it upstairs and turning up my sound all the way to see how far I could get on the before it would stop restarting my song I was playing. I got out of my basement, up the stairs, thru the kitchen and half way into the living room. If I were to yell at someone in the basement from where I was they couldnt hear it.

Great to hear. I think I'm going to pick up the PS3 today at Gamestop with the trade-in special! Thanks!

The controller has great range. I took mine into my office to recharge it via USB using my always-on PC. I must have accidentially hit the PS button because when I went back into my family room where the console is located the green light was on.

My family room is at least 60 feet away from my office and around 2 corners and through a number of walls.

I was curious about the same thing so I found this thread. After reading it I tested my blu-ray remote and a wireless controller in various places around the house and downstairs in the basement. I hit a single button on the remote and then went back to check to make sure it took. Seems like awesome range. I was about 60 feet away on the same floor and 60 feet away in the basement (through heating ducts and other house stuff). Worked each time.
