I do not know if what I am looking for even exists, but I will ask anyway. First, what I have

Vizio 50" plasma tv
Old Pioneer amp/tuner 195 watts
Old Sansui equalizer
Polk Audio M20 speakers
BJ's special mini spekers

This set-up sounds decent, but it is way better than the Vizio's stock speakers. What I would like to do is replace the BJ's cheapo speakers, and get a pair of small passive subwoofers. They would be placed underneath the end tables that are at the side of my sofa. Does anyone make a small passive sub in the 6" range? I just want a little more bass to go along with what I have. The M20's sound great, but do not offer enough bass. As you can tell by what I have, theater style surround sound is not what I am looking for. Just trying to slightly enhance the experience. Price is an issue. Thanks

Okay, how about this? What if I get two individual 8" car subwoofers with boxes? I will be powering these with my "B" channel speaker output from my receiver (Receiver is about 10 years old and doesn't have a seperate subwoofer output). My speakers are 8ohm, and the car subs will be 4ohm. Is this an issue? I just run my L & R wires from the receiver to each sub?

well i looked for some passive subwoofers for you and couldn't find any so my suggestion would be keep looking at ebay you may come across something. i saw that they had bose modules, which are passive for auction you may want to check that out. good luck.

I would just get a small powered subwoofer and use the high level inputs / outputs wihch are highly available. You will be hard pressed to find a small passive sub IMHO as very few manufacturers make passive subs now a days.

As the previous guy mentioned, it would be so much easier to just get a normal powered sub and hook it up thru your tape-outputs on the receiver, or use the speaker-level inputs. You should be able to find one which will fit under an end table without much trouble.

I'm pretty sure that hooking up 2 sets of 8ohm speakers cause the amp to be dealing with a 4ohm load. So, hooking up a pair of 8 and a pair of 4 is going below that (3ohm maybe?) and is not a good idea.

For reference, I have a very crappy 6" passive sub which came with an old SSI Pro-Logic HTIB some years ago. I finally replaced that system with something better. But, the sub is 9"x11"x15" with a 6" cone, and a port. Only slightly smaller than a small powered sub. Complete garbage.

Hsu makes the STF-1 which is somewhat small. I was in Circuit City the other day and saw about 10 different powered subs which could fit under an end table.
