View Full Version : Red Push attenuator for Mitsubishi WS-55819 ?

I posted this in the rear projection forum but was told I might have better luck posting it here.

I've noticed afew threads discussing using an attenuator to cut down on the red-push seen in some of the older mitsubishi RPTV's. I'm wondering if anyone has one for sale and if not if you know of a place online or a person who would?

thanks for any information...

I believe you can buy these at Radio Shack.

I found this at partsexpress.com

Its a RCA 3db attenuator and was wondering if this is all I need to resolve my red push problem on my MITS WS-55819?

thanks

It might be the solution if it doesn't attenuate the signal too much. The only way to know is to try it and see. Every TV with red push is going to need a different amount of adjustment. Fixing it this way will require trial and error. At least it's only $4.50.

I happened to see you post and I happen to have the instructions to build a red push attenuator for the 2001 model Mitsubishi sets (55807, etc.), but I would have to scan it or do a lot of retyping! I don't believe the 3db attenuator you're looking at is the one you need. This one consists of a Radio shack overload attenuator body, 1) 27ohm 1/8watt resistor and 2) 470ohm 1/8watt resistors soldered into the circuit board of the attenuator body.
I used one for several years on my old Mitsubishi, but I had to have someone build it for me since I couldn't seem to solder well enough to make it work!
If you want to try it, send me a private message and I'll try to get around to sending the detailed instructions on how to build it.

15-678 radio shack part number.
Their site is strange, so you may actually have to go to a store to find one. In line on the red component cable with short coax cables/ f-type/ rca adaptors necessary.

This does help, but you will have to calibrate grayscale when finished.

Use color decoder patterns and set to blue being perfect. Adjust red with attenuator. Then grayscale if you can or have it done.

Works wonders on CRT devices with limited decoder options in service or user.

Just and update...

I went and purchased the RCA 3DB attenuator from partsexpress.com and it works like a charm on reducing the red push.

I've owned this TV now for 5 years and finally got around to fixing the red push...LOL

I think we need to stop calling it a "red-push" attenuator effective now. This is a misleading name for a radio shack(or any electronics outfit) part that is as common as sliced bread: a SIGNAL ATTENUATOR.

I was one of those mislead by these devices being called red push attenuators. Of course it acts as a red attenuator if you put it in the red line of a component cable set, but it is not a magic bullet for the rest of us who suffer red-push over composite video and coaxial cable and OTA sources.

In those last cases there is hopefully some way in the service menu or otherwise to adjust the color decoder to clear up any color push. Otherwise, being able to elimnate red-push only in the component video realm seems pretty half-(posterior deleted) to me.

RS calls it a "RF Signal Attenuator". It has a dial on it so that you can turn it from 0-100% depending on how much red push you have.

Can you provide me with a link to that? Because at this point I truly doubt its existence. And the item being linked to above doesn't have any controls on it that I can discern. And again, it is a signal attenuator - and I'm not about to degrade my entire signal just to clear up push.

I guess I'm just having a hard time believing that a boat and a plane are the same thing.

Thanks,

Thanks,

He was referring to the Radio Schack 15-678 adjustable attenuator (0-20dB) which of yet I've been unable to locate on their website.

I can't locate it on the RS web site either. For some reason a scanner keeps popping up with the search option.
I bought mine in the local RS store approx. 3 or 4 yrs. ago for a Pioneer Elite 710 rptv. It's a small chrome box approx. 3" long x 2 " wide and 1/2" deep with a small dial on the top. It has to be placed in line with the component cable (red in this case). I only have to turn the dial on mine about 5 to 7% to get rid of the red push. All I can suggest is to visit a RS store and see if you can locate one. It seems to me though with all these responces that they probably have quit making (selling) them.

I was at the Mall today so I thought I'd look for this thing at the local Radio Shack. Sure enough, no where in the store. Sales guy asked if he could help. I told him I was looking for the RF Attenuator. He looked it up on the computer and said it was discontinued as of Oct. 06. The good news is that there are still some around. He said to call 1800THESHACK and ask for tv attenuator #1500678. He said that they have 2 in Cincinnati, OH. 1 in Waukegan, IL., 1 at Springfield, OH., 1 at Sun Prairie, WI., and 1 at Marshalltown, IA. Just call the number and have them send you one. He said the price is $10.49 but since it's been discontinued it might be cheaper since they would like to get rid of discontinued merchandise.
Hope this helps.
