Around the first of April I will be purchasing my first big screen. Largest i have had up until this point was a 40" lcd. This TV will be in the living room with 8-9 feet viewing distance. I have done some research and the following sets seem to be around what i am looking for. Which one would you suggest, or do you have a different suggestion. I want the best bang for my buck! Reason i am not going plasma is the cost for a 60" plasma lol.

Samsung HL-S6187W 61" 1080p DLP HDTV

Mitsubishi WD-65731 65" 1080p DLP HDTV

Mitsubishi WD-57731 57" 1080p DLP HDTV (I know it is sub 60", but not by much)

Sony KDS-60A2000 Grand WEGA 60" SXRD 1080p Rear Projection HDTV

I'm trying to decide between the wd57732 and the Toshiba 62mx196. At the store I was at the Toshiba had a much clearer/sharper picture than the Mitsu.

Note Samsung is expected to release its 2007 models toward the end of April. Toshiba is also expected to release its 2007 models in April/May.

You might want to take a look at the threads for those upcoming displays and decide whether you want to wait a few weeks for those. Obviously, until these models are out, we won't know for sure how they compare to the 2006 models. Generally though, Samsung and Toshiba improve their displays with every passing year.

Also, you might want to look at the Mits 65732 instead of the 731.

I have done A LOT of comparing of different hdtvs at the 50"-65" range. Here are some of MY opinions.

First a few general comments(my opinions). Plasma has by far the best color/brightness. Any other set next to a good plasma, just doesn't have the vibrancy that a plasma does. LCD is ok, but don't think its a good option for a 50+" set. DLP is awesome bang for the buck, not quite as vibrant as plasma, but decent all around preformer. Careful of some dlp sets(mostly older generation), can have some bad rainbow effects. LCoS is ok, but the silk screen effect(looks like an etch-a-sketch) can be bad.

Sony XXA200 - Pretty underwhelmed by this tv. When I first saw the XBR1s awhile back I was VERY impressed. They seem to be the best there was at the time. The new generation xxa2000 just don't do it for me. They are ok, but I have seen weird color problems with what looks like green blotches. I so badly wanted to buy the 60A2000, but no way I would after seeing a few in action.

JVC DLP- Silk screen effect is very noticable on them. Didn't really stand out to me.

Samsung DLP- Not too bad, good image quality, colors were good, Black levels seemed so so, not as good as the others. Off center viewing also seemed worse then the others.

Toshiba DLP- I really liked this tv. The only problem I see with it was a bit more noise on solid colors then the other tvs. Mostly shows up with lower quality signals. This is the TV I purchased because I got a new one with a SMALL scuff on the back side of the cabinet lol. I got the 62" 1080p for $1200!!!! SOLD. Haven't even set it up yet, so can't give you a review, but for $1200 new......

Mitsubishi DLP- I think these are one of the best DLP tvs there are. I have seen a few and all have looked great. I don't think you can go wrong with one of the new 1080p mits.

Anyway, ALL THE NEW 1080P TVS LOOK AWESOME!!!! Its not like you can pick a bad one. Its all a matter of SMALL differences. The only big difference is plasma, which colors are just so awesome, but its only good if you want a TV less then 55". Otherwise its BIG BUCKS!! Just typed this up quick, and I am NOT an expert, but I know what looks good to me. Most people on this site are fanboys for one brand or another and if you insult their brand they take it personally :). Find the best deal and go with it, you will be happy with anything. You can go mental trying to find the PERFECT set, because it doesn't exist.
