What is the best TV to get for $2000 or less? I have a PS3, xbox 360 w/ hd dvd, and Comcast HD. 1080p is a must.

What's your viewing distance? Always state viewing distance when asking about a new TV.

Hey that's my bad. :) Viewing distance will be between 6-9 ft.

Can you narrow it down? 6-9' is a 50% difference. :D

At 6', look at the 50" Samsung DLP. At 9', look at the 61" Samsung DLP. Both can be had for under $2100. Note the new 2007 models are coming in late April (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=779782).

I suggested 2006 Samsung's DLPs because they are among the few that support 1080p input through VGA from an Xbox360. If you see rainbows on DLP, you would do better to wait for the 2007 models with LED backlighting. To determine whether you see rainbows on DLP, move your eyes quickly from one part of the screen to another and try to detect multicolors (rainbows) around object edges -- this is caused by the color wheel used on existing DLPs, but manufacturers are slowly migrating to LED backlighting to eliminate that phenomena.

If you don't require 1080p output from the Xbox360, then consider the DLPs from other manufacturers, as well as the LCOS displays from Sony (SXRD) and JVC (D-ILA).

Then 6' it is. The new Samsung's won't have the rainbow effect either? and have hdmi 1.3? all for about $2000? Sounds wonderful! But what about new sony's as well?

The 61" LED-backlit model is likely to run ~$2500 upon release.

Sony is expected to preview its 2007 models in the next month, but they aren't expected to ship until late June or July. Until their preview, we won't know what improvements they've made over the 2006 models. Sony's 2006 models did not support 1080p through the VGA input.

so are samsung's 50" gonna be LED backlit as well? I also saw where 1080p is capable through component on the x360. Is this just for the gaming or for the hd-dvd's as well? Sorry for all the noob ?'s :)

so are samsung's 50" gonna be LED backlit as well?Yes, see this thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=779782) for a list of all 2007 models, their features, and MSRP. Retail prices on Samsungs are typically 20% below MSRP.

I also saw where 1080p is capable through component on the x360. Is this just for the gaming or for the hd-dvd's as well? Sorry for all the noob ?'s :)That's just for gaming. If you want 1080p output from the x360 on both games and HD-DVD, you've got to use VGA.

Probably $200 MSRP more than the HDMI 1.2 version. The HDMI 1.3 version also adds USB and Bluetooth.

why would it need usb and bluetooth? the usb for mass storage devices but the bluetooth? maybe firmware updates. that would be sweet.

Id check out the Samsung HL-S6187W. For $2000, you can get the HL-S6188W, or if you tried, for $22-2500, you could get the 71" version.
