THanks mlm39 02-11-07, 01:49 PM Very good with pictures & music. Not very developed for videos because . it only plays .wmv files. This can be overcome by using Tversity or Transcode 360 but you will need a fast PC for HD on the fly. . Videos appear in a long list with no support for folders. . There is no way to page thru the list. You have to scroll thru the list to find a video. . I'm sure there are other video shortcomings but haven't had it long enough to find out. On th positive side, the HD picture is awesome. MS has made timely improvements so I'm confident there are many more to come. If you want a game box that doubles as a media server, also look at the PS3. jerndl 02-11-07, 05:35 PM I have been playing around with my son's xbox360 and I'm pretty sure it plays mpeg files (both SD and HD) fine. It does require a Media Center PC as it's server. It does not directly play ripped DVDs in ISO format or video_ts folders. I have also played around with Transcode 360 (http://www.runtime360.com/projects/transcode-360/) and it works very well (even with a modest system) playing ripped DVD video_ts folders. There is also a free add-on for MCE called My Movies (http://mymovies.name/) (it works with the xbox 360 also) that does a fantasic job of creating and presenting you video catalog. See image below. Good luck. http://mymovies.name/media/59a4ad7e-d903-4301-88a1-839252814af1-01%20-%20Movies.jpg Jay mlm39 02-13-07, 01:04 PM I'm using XP Home Edition with Tversity. It also works with WMP11 with the same limitations but no transcoding. Tversity does have some gimics to make videos easier to locate but you still have to scroll thru the list. The MCE interface looks much better to me. |
