Hi I was wondering if someone could tell me what my television's native resolution is? I'm having an argument with someone and don't want to taint the results by saying what I think is its native resolution so any help from you guys one way or the other would be appreciated so I can either point him here or eat crow. It is a Hitachi 51f59a.
Is the native resolution 720p or 1080i?
Thank you in advance.

According to this link it's slightly less than 1080i on the vertical. I couldn't find the horizontal. Note that "slightly less" is ok. All TVs have a percent or two of overscan.

Is the native resolution 720p or 1080i?Because it is a CRT-based unit, it does not have a "hard" native resolution like a digital unit would; it is more dependent on the quality and bandwidth of the electronics. That being said, the specs for the Hitachi 51f59a state that it is a 1080i set:1080i Digital Video Processor
This processor converts standard tv signals to match the 1080i native display. However, Hitachi also states that "Due to variances in program productions and transmissions not all of the 1080 signal is displayed."
It's 1080i. What is the first line after "Key Features" in this document:
http://www.hitachi.us/tv/browse/projection/pdf/51F59.pdf
The native HD mode of almost all CRT-based RPTVs is 1080i. There was a Panasonic model many years ago which was native 720p but just about every other HD CRT RPTV only supports 1080i as its HD display mode.

I have a Sony Wega HD CRT, and while it is "1080i", it really means that it can take 1080i as as an input. As near as a bunch of us could figure out, it scalled everything to 960i and displayed about ~880 lines.
