View Full Version : Samsung DLP...extended service plans?

Seems there are a few issues with the DLP technology that may justify an extended warranty. My plasmas have been solid, and I now wish I had the service plan money back on my older one, but this DLP is for my parents, and think it may be wise for them. Anyway, they are likely getting the HLS4676S. CC has a 2yr. plan for $249 that covers one bulb replacement...and a 5 yr. that covers up to two bulbs. What have other DLP owners done for extended warranty? Any better deals? Thoughts?

Also who knows what the factory coverage is on these sets?

I do figure a deal can be had IF they know they are getting the service plan money as well.

Quick bump!

Anyway, see the Tapeworks Texas deal in the Found Deals forum. Seems pretty good. As a point of reference, I got a 5 yr EW from GE (actually 4 yrs after the 1 yr Samsung wty) that includes multiple bulb replacements, power surge damage and a lemon clause, and it cost me $210 when I bought the TV at a B&M store. You might try to negotiate that CC price a bit - 249 for 2 yrs seems high and you know there is a LOT of profit embedded in those EWs

Thanks, will give that a look. Has anyone needed or used that extended warranty with a DLP? Maybe the DLP technology is what people thought the plasmas would be...troublesome. I for one will no longer get extendeds with a flat panel.

Perhaps not, but its kinda like saying I want my money back on my home insurance cause I tornado hasn't hit it. You're buying insurance.

DLPs have moving parts (I still am amazed when I think about how they actually work!) so I guess that introduces more error. The main issues being reported with the Samsungs in the forums are with a seemingly basic problem - the mirrors that project the image come unglued over time and come out of alignment. Not a very high tech problem but a very important one nonetheless.

That would definately be a problem. I really never took the time to learn much about the DLP technology, and honestly know just a bit on the plasma, (own two of those). The bulb replacement makes these plans more attractive, though waiting for service to get one would be a bummer.

Can you only get an extended warranty through the store you bought the TV from? Can I get a TV, then get an extended warranty elsewhere?
