does anyone know if ALL PS3 games will support 720p?

my westy ltv-32w1 doesn't look too hot at 1080i (naturally, as 720p is its native resolution). playing GT:HD looks quite a bit better at 720p compared to 1080i; there are noticeably more jaggies in 1080i.

Yes. I think it would be suicide to release a game that isnīt atleast 720P.

I think all 1080P games support every res up to 1080P including 720P. It's the 720P games that are giving people issues since the PS3 won't upscale to 1080i.

Now the Blu-ray output is 1080i/p only, but your TV will scale it. How do they look?

MUA and FA2 only supports 1080P. Which means it will support 1080i also, but not 720P.

yeah, i know blu-ray movies only output to 1080i/p. i played a few seconds of talladega nights (the only blu-ray movie i have right now) and it looked fine at 1080i. i think its just because its easier to spot and have jaggies in a video game compared than movies.

are you sure? i did a quick google search of both games, and it seems both support 720p (assuming you're talking about Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Full Auto 2).

rahzel, I am not sure, but the back of the box says 1080P, nothing about 720P.

I do believe SCE's TRC for PS3 games mandates 640x480 support, so 480i and 480p. As far as I know, there are currently no other resolution requirements. So, there is a chance that a game could come out supporting only 480i/p, but I would venture to stay that's a remote possibility. It would take a bold developer to target 480p, and use the rest of the system's resources on things other than resolution. In regards to 1080p only games, there are currently none that I'm aware of in NA. Both Full Auto 2 and Marvel support 720p, 480p and 480i. If a game engine is running at 1920x1080 natively, getting it to run at 1280x720 is not as big of a technical issue as it currently is going the other way.

How do you get MUA and FA2 to run at 720P?????? Currently I am getting 1080i and would rather send my display 720P.

The resolution supported is determined by the game developers. They can support 720, 1080, or both. It's up to your display to convert the game resolution to the display native resolution.

It pays not to skimp on your display!

I have no idea why a game wouldn't support 720p rendering....every single 360 game does.

Far more people have 720p (or 768p) displays than 1080i or 1080p displays. Every game should render in that format. Scaling is not done perfectly, particularly on the newer run of $500 LCDs.
