Hi all,

This is my first post after hanging around here for a while reading about PS3 experiences. I did not see any posts regarding a "complete" Linux + Media center solution. I have seen there is a couple of open source / linux media centers that allows a neat connection to your computer. E.g. for accessing music, photos and videos. With the use of e.g. Samba you can access your shares from a window based PC.

So, anyone of you tried out the different setups? E.g.

* Myth TV
* My Media System
* FreeVo
* more... ?

Good experiences? Any favourable setup that you can recommend? Are they all the same? Etc, any help and guidance would be appreciated! Or if anyone got the _ultimate_ setup :)

Sorry for not posting links, but due to the fact that this is my first post, I am not allowed :/

No, linux on PS3 sux because of only having 256MB RAM, and the fact that most apps only use the one core of the Cell CPU. Also no access to the GPU, and no wireless drivers. So basically it's like a PC from 5 years ago at best.

As for sharing files, you can just run a web server on your PC and browse it from your PS3 to transfer files. No need to install Linux for that (it's much easier to install apache on your PC).

Linux on the PS3 works fairly well for me. The people who complain about the RAM clearly aren't running Linux on their PS3s.

It will take some time before a complete Linux media center solution is working on the PS3. There still is no means to access the SixAxis or the BD remote from Linux.

Gentoo are still working to get all of the underlying parts working.

Sony is working on a lot of stuff. They have people posting on open discussion lists about various things, including improvements to the bootloader.

Hopefully at some point we will get some kind of accelerated video support, but what we have now is working for well enough for 720p video.
