View Full Version : Investigating the BD Freezing problems after 1.5 update
donricouga 02-08-07, 10:43 AM I decided to start this thread in hopes that we can find a common link as to why Some people are having trouble after the 1.5 update with their BD Freezing.
That way if we find something, we can have a temp fix till Sony(maybe) fixes this in their next update. So everyone contribute.
Please list the following

-PS3 Model and Purchase Date
-Audio connections method and settings

Bookerman 02-08-07, 10:19 PM I read in the Blu-ray Player forum that the solution might be turn off your network connection.
I guess the PS3 checks for firmware upgrades at set intervals and while doing so may cause the freezing. Again, I'm just going off the top of my head from what I read. Try it and see if it works. Good luck.
Works good, no problems

They may or may not be using a wired connection. You are able to use a wireless set up with the 20gb should you purchase the additional equipment.
DLove23 02-09-07, 06:41 AM Mine frooze for the first time in quite a while last night watching a movie. It did this in the past with Talladega Nights and I thought it was a problem with the disk at first.
Has Sony commented on this or stated a reason? I hope the searching for firmware theory is correct and a fix is made for it, because this is VERY annoying. Between this and random controller disconnects Sony has made life with this thing VERY frustrating at times. Way to work out the bugs before launch boys. BTW, are newer consoles doing this as well or is it just older ones?

Why waste words bitching and moaning about something as inane as 20GB people listing what they use? Are you the Thread Monitor? Can I see your sash?

DLove23 02-10-07, 11:05 AM Someone mentioned that hard powering the PS3 off worked for them.
I can confirm it did NOT work for me. :(
DOES SONY EVEN KNOW ABOUT THIS?!
thundus 02-10-07, 05:20 PM EDIT: By the end of the day, system completely bricked and unable to boot, so probably not related to the occasional freezeups others are seeing...
-Locked up in Syriana BD and RFOM; no issues with BD X-Men3 or Reservoir Dogs
-60GB bought mid-January
-Digital Optical set to ouput bitstream
-HDMI set at 1920 x 1080 P
-Wired to 802.11a connection point
-45GB free
-1920 x 1080 Progressive

watched 6 movies with no freezing
I watched about 6 movies and the 7th time it froze up several times. Ever since then, freezing has been pretty random. Sometimes I can play 3 blu-ray movies in a row without a freeze...then the next 4 blu-ray movies will have random freezes every 5 minutes. Its driving me crazy.
I'm using:
PS3 60GB (bought during the 1st week release in November with Taladega Nights included)
Running Firmware Update 1.51 (never had any problems prior to Update 1.5)
Using Linksys Wireless G router
Using HDMI (with all audio options checked on in PS3 menu)
Resolution is set to auto on my PS3 (which defaults to 1920x1080i).
Connected to an Onkyo 674 receiver via HDMI.

Well, in that case there should be no difference, as the system will think and act as if it's using a wired connection.
The reason it's important is because some people may not be using any network connection at all.
My system:
-Works Good (so far; use has been limited as I have no packaged games)
-20GB model, purchased mid-January (it was a return, however)
-Optical out, bitstream
-HDMI, 1080p
-Wired internet
-13GB
-720p projector

I get freezes since upgrading to 1.51. I never had a freeze previous to installing the update.
The common denominator for all of us is the wireless connection. Since PSN is disabled when you watch a movie (cant see logins/messages) why don't they just turn off the network like they do when you play a PS2 game?
I think the issues were probably higher today as PSN has been having major server issues with logins. It seems to freeze when it keeps trying to connect, the freeze happens when it timesout, or at least thats my guess.
