View Full Version : Power Over Wireless???
justlukeyou 02-08-07, 12:32 PM Hi Im new here,
Im just wondering if anyone as heard of 'Power Over Wireless' the transfer of electricity to things such as cell phones without a cable. It works similar to the electric toothbrush!!!
Anyone heard of it??
Kal Rubinson 02-08-07, 02:11 PM ??? "Wireless" electric toothbrushes have batteries.
foriegnbody 02-08-07, 02:21 PM are you thinking of this?

http://www.splashpower.com/Well, no wire but, then again, no distance. :D
justlukeyou 02-09-07, 03:29 AM Electric toothbrushes do have batteries but they are charged wirelessly when are placed on the charging pad.
Yeah that Splashpower look pretty cool, definately a step in the right direction. MIT University have developed some sort of wireless laptop charger also.

Now, if you could figure out a way to recharge or power a device at a significant distance without wires, then you'd have something.
justlukeyou 02-15-07, 03:42 PM NASA has also been researching the use of solar satellites that transmit electricity to earth. Whats incredible is that 1 hours worth of sun has enough energy to power earth for a year!
It's called magnetic induction, it's how transformers work....you can cook with it too!
justlukeyou 02-16-07, 01:01 PM You mean microwaves?
No, not microwaves.
Magnetic fields.
trekguy 02-16-07, 04:48 PM Tooth brushes are good, induction is good, but never forget this fellow--

foriegnbody 04-17-07, 02:18 AM Same way a door entry tag works right? the reader excites the device enough to activate it, but it's not enough to actually charge anything.
Who knows what kind of research will be done on how bad that kind of field is for you if it was cranked up enough to excite the batteries enough to charge them!
Here's a wireless charger...Well, maybe it does have wires after all.

At least someone here knows what they are talking about.
justlukeyou 06-07-07, 05:47 PM According to an article on the BBC site Wireless Energy is beginning to take off.
It also has a name WiTricity, pretty cool concept when they make it safe
cleverfoo 06-09-07, 12:03 PM So far it looks like it's all theoretical, but I heard they're beginning work on a prototype. Apparently they're going to try to "tunnel" electricity much like how electrons tunnel as described by quantum mechanics.

Are there any electrical engineers in the house that can interpret this?
phantsam 06-11-07, 10:58 AM Wireless Powered Light bulb (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,279153,00.html)
I imagine it will be awhile.
Mr. RegalSin 06-12-07, 08:52 PM Well I have thought about doing that myself many times before. It would have be using some kind of magnetic disaray I could imagine.
Think about you building a new house and the innards of where lights wires are is just like a river of heat induced energy almost like infared.
When that comes to mind I think of the ray gun ( which has been inveted already ).
Also the movement of electric currents with points has been done before "The Civil War" .

What's a magnetic disaray?
Gamester3333 07-07-07, 03:46 AM You complain about cell phone radiation and then come up with this ****... That's what makes me angry about this country. Get enough people riled up and anything is bad for you, anything is good for you. Tesla himself warned us of the dangers of AC and that we should stick to DC for everything... I agree. I don't know much about either subject, but I know that they are one and the same, so don't get mad when either we all turn out just fine or we all get cancer... Sorry for the rant but this just pisses me off so much. Californians are the best, huh.
Mr. Welsh 07-10-07, 06:15 PM Tesla himself warned us of the dangers of AC and that we should stick to DC for everything.
What history school did you go to?
You've got Edison and Tesla confused. Edison clearly lost this battle, yet there is little mention of Tesla in history books that I remember from my public education days. In the days of high tech format wars, I think it's odd that you don't hear more about the history of AC vs. DC.
