Hello my friend was at sears the other day looking at there samsung tv's and a salemen had told him how the samsungs are good tv's and that they are made by sony ! Has anyone else heard of that or was that salesmen feeding him a line of bull because the samsung was cheaper priced than the sony and he maybe thought he could get a sale from saying that ?

Horse Poohey on that one! That is nonsense when it comes to DLP's that Sales Rep if making things up. Sony and Samsung have a joint partnership in LCD FP's and a patent sharing agreement on more than 5,000 but Samsung doesn't need help on how to make DLP's from Sony or how to make profits. I don't know that Sony has EVER built a DLP.

Sony sought out Samsung in that regards to switch from plasma rebadge PDP's and into LCD's and it's worked for Sony. Worked so well that Sony is looking for additional capacity while Samsung already possesses that extra capacity outside that partner facility.

The patent sharing has benefitted both but no way Sony builds DLP's - Texas Instruments is the main partner in that regards with Samsung and others. Excluded from patent sharing is DNie(Samsung) and DRC(Sony).:)

No. However, both Sony and Samsung have outsourced all of their TV manufacturing to Jose's TV Shop in Matamoros, Mexico. If you don't believe me just check out the "Made in" sticker on the back. I think the only part that Sony or Samsung still make is the sticker with their name on it! :)
