View Full Version : Anyone gone from 42" ED Panasonic to Olevia/Westinghouse HD LCD?

I currently have a Panasonic TH-42PWD7UY Pro plasma that I put in the master bedroom, hanging on the wall. However, it sits directly across from a window. There is really no better place to put it due to the layout of the room. The window definitely puts significant glare on the screen. For two reasons, I am planning to sell my EDTV and buy one of those inexpensive sub-$1000 42" HDTV LCDs, either Olevia or Westinghouse.

1. Glare. Lots of it.
2. The market for EDTV's seems to be drying up, and I want to sell before the price floor completely drops out.

I just wonder if anyone else has made this switch. If so, was it a good decision, or did you regret it? The Panny ED PQ is so good I almost worry I will regret it, but I have a guy coming to look at it tonight and if it sells, no turning back!

I suggest that you get some blinds on that window instead.

I do have mini-blinds on that window, but a lot of light leaks through anyway. I suppose I could get a different kind of window treatment, but it would need to be something that allows no gaps.

Is it direct sunlight on the screen or simply glare? Direct sunlight on the screen is not improved by LCD. Glare, obviously, is.

If at all possible, I'd suggest getting one of your desired LCDs prior to selling your ED set. Then prop them into place with your feed & decide if it is acceptable to you.

in college we put black construction paper up on the windows so no light got in. it served a myriad of purposes.
