View Full Version : Hitachi PJ-TX100 opinions
SKoprowski 02-08-07, 05:54 PM I've had my Panny for almost 5 years now and I was looking at a upgrade. I don't have a lot to spend but I see a sponser has lowered the Hitachi TX100 to under $700.00 brand new. It's not the latest and greatest but it seems to me it would be a great upgrade for me going from a XGA projector to a 720p with 3 x the contrast and dvi/hdmi capabilities. I was wondering what anyone's experiences with Hitachi and this projector is. BTW- please don't mention go DLP- even with 4x colorwheels my eyes can't handle DLP :(......I wish that wasn't the case or I would be ordering a MItsubishi 1000.
Thanks,
Scott
Tom Blizzard 02-08-07, 09:20 PM I'm considering the same projector. Hope someone can give us some facts or opinions.
BuffaloJim 02-08-07, 10:33 PM A couple of years ago, I saw this projector next to a Sony HS20. I thought the Hitachi was far better. It also had a relatively long zoom lens. For the money, I don't think you can go wrong.

dazed_n_confuzed 02-08-07, 10:45 PM I don't have any "hands on" experience with this pj, but it is reviewed and rated here. (http://www.audioholics.com/productreviews/avhardware/hitachi-PJ-TX100p1.php) If my pj budget was sub $1,000.00 I would seriously consider this pj.
This pj's bigger brother has a thread here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=575761
The above thread might give you some additional information regarding this "little brother"
Hope this helps.

Wow, great price.
I've had mine for a year & a half & have been real impressed. It's got about 1200 hours on it so it's a little dimmer than new, but I can still have enough light on to read a paper.
The colours are excellent and blacks are quite dark depending on the amount of ambient light.
I'm projecting a 121" image on a Behr Quietude painted wall. The pj's about 15' away & my first row of seating is about 12' away. I see no sde. There's no banding or colour uniformity problems. The only problem that I have is that I need to use a lot of vertical shift & this causes the lower left corner to be slightly out of focus. It's slightly noticable on program grids but not on program material.
Standard def looks really good. I rip my dvds to xvids & they look great played on my HTPC. You should see a shuttle launch on Dicovery HD. Amazing.
When it was new, Sound & Vision magazine reveiwed it alongside a Sony HS-51. They liked the Sony better, but only because it was $500 cheaper. The review is probably available on it's website.
For $700, you won't be disappointed.
bri1270 02-09-07, 06:36 AM For you owners/previous owners, can the PC input be used as a component input, and will this PJ allow horizontal adjustment to fill the screen on 2:35:1 AR movies?
Thanks

I have this projector, xbox HDDVD drive, PC w/ ATI x1600pro HDMI card, and PowerDVD Ultra HDDVD software. Only way to play HD DVD is via VGA cable. If connect to the projector DVI port (DVI cable w/ HDMI adapter) then I got a screen of white noise. I remember someone in this forum also reported having trouble to get this projector to talk to PS3. I think it definitely has HDCP compatibility issue even though Hitachi claims it's HDCP ready.
When playing other video I noticed a slight color difference between using VGA or DVI connection, DVI is more accurate while VGA is a little blueish.
SKoprowski 02-13-07, 09:56 AM Well.............not much response, but I see it dropped another $100.00 :) I think I'm going to chance it.
bri1270 02-13-07, 11:12 AM Any thoughts/opinions on the brightness of this projector?

Me too as I have to pay sales tax in Florida.... Thanks...
jelliott25 02-13-07, 01:56 PM I've been considering upgrading to a Mits 1000U but this thing sure is tempting for $200 less. Specs show contrast at 1200:1 for the Hitachi and 2500:1 for the Mitsubishi. i wonder if my eyes will be able to see the difference. Crappy blacks and SDE are one reason I'm wanting to upgrade my Epson Home 10+, not to mention getting HD resolution so maybe I'd be better off spending a little more to go DLP.
<sigh> What to do what to do.
Jason1976 02-13-07, 02:12 PM I just bought one too. While the HD1000 is an awesome PJ, I am sensitive to rainbows. This price it is too tempting.
I'll let you know my thoughts when I receive it.
