I found one I like, but it is a minimum of 6" from the ceiling. This causes a 100" diagonal image's frame to overlap an electrial outlet of mine. So the shorter the mount, the better. Thanks!

I found nothing that had any adjustments that would allow me to mount the projector any closer. Chief makes one of the best mounts out there for easily adujusting in all three directions. After I installed the mount, took about 2 minutes to dial it in. You can take the projector down without affecting the adjustments. Great piece of equipment, if more expensive than the others. fook 02-08-07, 09:38 PM Ack! I can't post url's until i get 5 posts under my newb belt, but mountdirect has a unit called the "PMS Series Projector Ceiling Mount" $39, dirt cheap, solid all metal, ball and socket type adjustment, quick release that keeps alignment, and measures 3.5 inches from projector screws to ceiling screws. Haven't mounted mine yet, but I picked one up for my HD1000u due to the slim profile. you might want to check it out RJR2345 02-08-07, 10:33 PM Omnimount makes a mount that I used that only drops about 2inches from ceiling Wet1 02-09-07, 09:23 AM Ack! Don't you guys end up needing to use keystone correction when you mount this close to the ceiling? The reason I need it, if I use a 6" mount, my screen border will lay ontop of the top socket of my electrical outlet. The HD1000U fixed throw is tough to plan around. I could use keystone correction to raise the image up my wall, while using a 6" mount...but why should I if I don't need to? :p bcarlsen 02-23-07, 05:33 PM Don't you guys end up needing to use keystone correction when you mount this close to the ceiling? Most people try to mount as close to the cieling as possible so they don't have to use keystone correction. gobble 02-23-07, 05:57 PM Most people try to mount as close to the cieling as possible so they don't have to use keystone correction. Don't you have that backwards? If I mount my projector close to the ceiling I need to aim it down to the screen which then requires keystone correction. If I mount it lower towards the middle of the screen, I can aim the projector level towards the screen and not need keystone correction. Am I wrong on this? live4ten 02-23-07, 06:33 PM That would be logical if DLP projectors didn't have built in offset. With no offset, I believe the lens of the projector should be aligned with the top of the screen. I was looking into buying the Mitsubishi HC3000, but using their calculator, the 30% or so lens offset built into the projector would have had my screen less than two feet from the floor. I guess they're built for sitting on a low table. hmcewin 02-23-07, 07:17 PM Don't you have that backwards? If I mount it lower towards the middle of the screen, I can aim the projector level towards the screen and not need keystone correction. Am I wrong on this? What kind of projector do you have and what is the offset? If you are talking about the Mits 1000 which has an offset of about 33% according to my estimate, the generalization is closer the better to the ceiling if you have normal ceiling heights of 8 or 9 feet. This apparently was the thoughts of the designers when they put the offset at 33%. Depends on your ceiling height and screen size. I mounted my MITS on my 9' ceiling with the Chief mount which put the center of the lens at 5" below the ceiling. With my 110" screen I still had to tilt my projector up slightly. People with 8 or 9 ft. ceilings will generally get away without using keystone if they can flush mount the MITS 1000 rutlian 02-24-07, 04:35 AM I found one I like, but it is a minimum of 6" from the ceiling. I bought mine also with mountdirect and it fit perfectly with my hd1000u, nice looking mount, durable and easy to install. Peter SJK 02-24-07, 04:53 AM I have a different projector, the sharp DT-500, but here is a picture of it with a Chief Universal mount. I had a hardware store cut and thread the pipe and then I spray-painted it with Rustoleum. Flange in the joists and all the rest is the universal mount. |
