Hi guys,
Long time lurker, first time poster....

Not sure which forum to post this in, but I'm looking to find (or possibly build - as I consider myself a Windows/Linux/AV guru) a multchannel DVR system with the general specs:

I've done a bit of searching, but so far the standalone units I see have been mainly geared towards security & surveillance (this might work).

The ideal solution would have:

- multiple inputs (2, 4, etc) video (composite/svid) / audio (pref stereo audio)
- independently capture/encode in realtime each input, i.e., 640x480/30fps SD/DVD quality (mpeg-2 MP@ML or mpeg-4, etc)
- web interface for remote control
- ability to schedule recordings would be nice
- ability to do a basic preview of available inputs via web interface, etc
- ability to dump recorded MPG or MP4's to a network share (smb, ftp, etc)

My budget would be about 1000-2000 USD for such a project.

Anybody have any ideas for an existing product, or perhaps (what I really like) a DIY sort of project?

Could I use a hardware compression/capture card such as something like this:
Geovision GV-2004-4 (sorry newbie cant post links)

Are there any Linux/FOSS projects that have similar goals to what Im looking for?

Thanks,
J
