Hey guys, looking for some advice here. Cant decide between these 2 tvs, Pioneer 5070HD plasma or the Sammy 4696D LCD.

I will be using this tv for HDTV, PS3 and Blu-ray viewing. I have no plans to use it as a computer monitor.

The lighting in the room will be moderate (drapes to block out light during the day). I will be seated approximately 8-10 feet away.

I was originally set on the Sammy 1080p LCD, but after alot of research it seems that 1080p wont be as beneficial as I thought it might be.

I initially had some concerns about gaming on a plasma, but again after reading some of your thoughts on here, that has been squashed (to a certain extent).

Hopefully some of you could share your thoughts on these 2 tvs and help me decide! I have been going back and forth for about a month now, and cant seem to make up my mind.

Personally from that distance, I'd like the extra 4" of screen size & go with the plasma. Regarding gaming, it will require a bit of vigilance. But since you're aware of the potential problems & sound like you'll be mixing up your viewing a bit, you should be ok. Just stay on top of any IR.

i was in the same shoes, had a 1080p lcd. returned it and went with the 5071. best move yet. tv is perfect.

nice blacks, nice colors. Looks great on my Hd dvd.

Have you looked at them at the store? My advice is to take advantage of the bigger size and as a multi use gaming, HDTV etc I would go with the 5070/71 especially if you are going to be watching sports as it is amazing on the Pio (well not only sports :)
