also I dont have this pic but if there was only 1 player the LED's on the 360 would all be lit the same color the color of what player was active that way you could change the color by changing what player you are using and turn off all the other controlers since on the 360 you can use any controller as any player and it will work just hook up 4 controllers and turn off 1 2 and 3 then you can use player 4 like it was player 1 but light #4 will be lit

look at this link and tell me if this could be done I made it in paint

there would have to be 16 LED's in each controller and 16 in the 360 it self

you could use any 4 colors

it would make it so that no matter what controller you look at it would be easy to tell what player it is

Holy cow. Someone stole all your punctuation.

it would make it so that no matter what controller you look at it would be easy to tell what player it is

I didn't realize this was a problem given the 4 quadrants that correspond to the unit itself.

this is what it would look like on the 360 when there are 1 2 3 and 4 hooked up the controllers would be all one color

the on the #3 the #4 is purple like the center what ever color the center would be the unusec one would be that color

Wow! They did it again...man, you gotta secure your punctuation.

Seems like he just wanted to get his question out there. This is a forum to help others not bash them for using poor grammer.

If you're going to go with those colors, try to match them up in the order they are on the button faces. You have yellow near the bottom.

but... why?! that's MORE confusing than what the 360 already does with the quadrants.

Unless I'm missing something... A quadrant is only lit on the system if that controller is in use, and that corresponding quadrant is lit on the controller itself. What else is needed? why have multi-colors to do something that only requires monochrome?

Again, if I'm missing something here, fill me in.

This will not work as you will not be able to dictate that the controller now modded to be blue will always correspond to the portion of the ring that is blue. They controllers get assigned based on the order in which they are powered on. So, you'd have to yell at your guests not to turn on their controller until you say so.

You: "OK, everyone ready!?"
Crowd: "<Moan>... whatever..."
You: OK, Green power on!"
You: OK, Blue power on!"
You: OK, Red power on!"
You: OK, Yellow power on!"

(2 hours later 3 controllers went off during a snack intermission. Players return and press the center button to turn the controller back on)

You: "Noooo! Yellow, dang you.. you should have waited for blue to power on first! Now blue is corresponding to yellow. We can't play like this!"
Crowd: "This sucks. I wish MS would have just left them all green and lighted a specific quadrant of the circle so we knew which player we are."
You: "Oh ... dang"

I dont' know why but all im picturing is the red, yellow, blue, and green lion coming together to make Voltron from my cartoon watching days.

I suppose there's the option of building a little board that takes in the four quadrant led wires, determines which is lit, and then turns on your custom leds. Probably way too much effort for most people, but I'm sure there's someone that could do it. In the end, it's just a bunch of AND and OR gates linked up.

yea I guess the second pic is not really right what I ment was

what if that didnt matter what ever controller was turned on second and third and forth would get what ever color goes to that player and the 360 would light up as well

so when you turn on the controller all the colors flash and such until the 360 assigns it a player number then it would become the color of that player

any unused players would on the 360 would get the color of the center of the power button and the controllers would be off when you turn them on they "grab" a open channel on the 360 and change the color of the next open player

Maybe a simpler way to do it with close to the same results would be to change each quadrant of the controller and the 360 led's to your color selection, (ex. red top right quadrant, yellow bottom right ect..) then you wouldn't have to worry about which controller was turned on in what order and would give you the same look on your example of the 360, but each controller would only light up in one quadrant area when turned on in your custom color. Not quite as cool as the whole ring lighting up along with the center section, but would be much easier to do and still give a custom look to it

You also have to consider how the LEDs cycle when the battery is low, or flash when a notification pops up. Doing this as posted originally would be more work than it could possibly be worth.

what would be the point of this? wouldn't you still have to look at the controllers to see who was who?

its too early in the morning to decipher this thread.

I think redcorvette is on the right track. I don't think its worth all the time and effort because like others have said, its a pretty good setup already.
If you still want to do it go for it, its your 360.

I'll express my opinion here as I see fit, not to please you. Commenting on a poster's "grammer" is very common...like calling them out when they use all caps.

OP just refuses to use punctuation.

But on with the thread. What the OP wants can be done with clever programming, but how to integrate it into a controller would not be worth the trouble. I was thinking that maybe you could just change all the color of the LED's to another color to make your 360 match your setup.

I'm still not sure what the point of this would be. If you wanted to know who was player 4, wouldn't this entail more work? You would have to look at the console, figure out which color was in quadrant 4, then find which controller was that color.

If you have enough current to drive 4 led's in parallel rather than the current single LED, then you could hook it up such that the wires going to LED quadrant "1" in the controller actually go to LED "green" in all 4 quadrants. The wires going to LED segment "2" in the controller go to LED "red" in all 4 quadrants, etc. etc. That way you power on the controller, it synchs up and tries to light what it thinks is the proper "quadrant" but instead lights up your specified color in all 4 quadrants.
It would actually be a cool "pulsing" effect when it's trying to synch up or flashing low battery, as the colors would cycle when the controller was trying to have the lights go around in a circle, and you'd get weird mixed colors for teh low battery flashing.
You could also replace the LED's in the wireless headset with your custome colors too :-)
