Yea the weasels went to their book of tricks again, what they don't understand is many of us are catching on to their tactics. So this writer was quickly ready to take to task what the weasels said and it backfired, like they all would if the reporter immediately took Sony's word to task. Not that this is a hugey in it's overall subject, but the point to me is once again Sony will say anything to make the reporter seem satisfied with a "everything is great" answer because they have a guilty conscience and feel like they are backed desperately into a corner, which they aren't but they act is if there are, like a kid at school that will say anything to be your friend. If they called it they way it is imo they would get a lot more respect, they seem to do more damage with their mouths then anything else.

Care for, flame or what?

My input towards Jack Treton ( he can afford it ) < why does someone point out so much crap in SONY's basket?

EGM - I am starting to question those bastards, it seems to me they are sleeping with M$... < so far they praised the X360, but thats fine, its US made.

Anyway, speaking about the article - remember when M$ camp said ( their PR managers, inlcuding MOORE ) that 1080 is not necessary for gaming, or its not even important. Bam, they upgrade the firmware to support 1080p ( SONY MADE IT A REALITY, because even 1080p setts are selling well ) and now will get a game in 1080p < why dont they just stick with what they said earlier.

P.S SONY DID A INCREDIBLE JOB supplying US and JAPAN. It took M$ a half year to start meeting demand, and then took half a year to fix all the bugs, and faulty systems. THE DEV community did not have anything else to publish **** to so they took the X360 as the opertunity. Sony did not even launch in EUROPE and people are declaring the PS3 as a looser? Sure it might not sell for the first couple of years @ its current price, but what happens when the price hits 300? Its a long term investment baby, not some one quicke! The reason Windows is #1 is because M$ never gave choice to anyone else...

X360 better sell well, other wsie its pointless for M$ to loose $ both generations.

Well...I have to say that if I was offered $1,200 for my PS3, I wouldn't take it. Its painful to watch a movie in broadcast HD after watching a Blu-Ray movie. O...and it plays games, stores music, etc. too.

To be fair, the interview was done in early January and supplies were still pretty tight at that time. But, no dought the interview was ripe with eye rolling statements.

And Smokey, for some one who complains about all the 360 talk in the PS forum you sure do bring it into play ALOT. You need to quit being so defensive...

This is so painful. Sony, can it get any worse.

1. VF is 720P not 1080P with no online support.
2. VF fighting stick is recalled (Sega's fault, but still)
3. PS3 update ruins blu-ray playback.
4. No Smurfs in 1080p. (sarcasm)

What are these guys doing.

It is a double edge sword for PS fans. We have the most powerful hardware, but have nothing fully supporting that power. I know it will happen soon, but we should have a steady supply of games coming out until the online store is saturated with a wide variety of titles.

1) But it will scale to 1080P and how is no online support Sony's fault? It's Sega's decision not to include it and it has nothing to do with libraries or SDK. AM2 does not believe the fighter can be done justice online due to latency and the precise timing that is needed for the control input in the game so they won't attempt to do online till they feel it's possible. You won't see VF5 online for the 360 either.

I've never liked Jack Tretton and I think he should have paid up to his challenge. Ken used to be pretty level headed but he's gone crazy the last couple of years. Phil though has always been on the level, honest, and actually knows what he's talking about when it comes to games and technology so I can't see grouping him in with the other two. He's probably one of the best execs at any company in the entire video game industry and is widely respected because of being on the level and knowing his stuff.

why do you care? just curious? is it going to make a difference on how you sleep at night? meeting demand and having demand are always two different things. xbox 360 was readily available in march of 06. here we sat in late january and could walk in just about any store and buy a ps3. sorry i am not buying that they where able to build more. there is no reason to buy it is more of a factor then anything. give me a game worthy of a 600 dollar system and i will have one. till then i will be playing gears of war.

i purchased a x360 the same days gears launched btw.

P.S.
$ != S. please atleast be respectful of the competition it just makes you look even more childish to do that.

NPD numbers for January should be posted now or sometime soon.. i think we will get to see a real picture of how many were sold..

Considering they only sold 1.06 million last year (and most of that was Ebay profit seekers or Christmas presents)

I'd guess.. no more than 250,000 in NA for the entire month of January.. when demand is alot more average.

I think the interview was a while ago, which is why he could say something like that. Anyway, Around here every target got an allocation of 8-10PS3s two fridays ago.

I went to the two closest to me, they were sold out this monday(10 days later). I had to go to a third to get my PS3.

They are selling briskly. The unexpected strength of the Wii, and the total lack of games which dampedned the PS3s sales.

I actually read the full article in EGM today. First off, the article points out that the launch wasn't the tragic event people make it out to be. EGM did a simular article with Microsoft after it's launch so fair is fair. I think Trenton comes off as more honest than Moore did at the 360 launch interview. The statement was made back in early Jan as is noted and I think at the time it wasn't an outrageous statement nor do I think it should be taken as a serious statement. I think he was just trying to have some fun with the interview. In my area Wal-Marts and Targets have PS3s in stock. The Best Buys and Circuit Citys seem to be sold out more often than not.
The whole article is worth reading in my opinion.

i live in one of the highest populated areas of Los Angeles. When we get shipments of consoles we get them in giant bulk.

I bought mine... January 4th i believe. I walked into the store they JUST sent up a special cashier for it, 16 60gb's all sold out in 30 minutes.

no targets/walmarts/CC's around me had them .

If my neighborhood isn't a perfect example of a majority sample you're gonna be hard pressed to find a better place.

Hey, it's just a guess. I have no clue if it's right or not. Come, make yours and we'll see who's closer :)

BTW: I've found a strange paradox:

People that like and own the PS3 claim they are harder to find than an honest politician, while people who don't own and don't like the PS3 can't seem to go to the bathroom without tripping over one.

And since I know none of these people would lie about the availability of the PS3, one can only conclude that the more you like a PS3, the less likely you are to find one for sale in your neighborhood. :)

I had three chances to buy a PS3 in LA before Christmas, and I wasn't even looking. Granted, they weren't sitting on shelves back then, but they were available quite often. In January I didn't do any looking, but the place where I work did a story on how all the chains nearby (in West LA) had plenty in stock. IGN also did a story about this in early January, and they're in Culver City.

I have no trouble finding it in the central valley even before Christmas. I bought mine maybe the 1st week of January at Best Buy in Modesto. Truth be told this is just more of Sony's arrogance ,

This Tretton guy is crazy and would be broke if he actually had to buy all the unsold PS3's for $1200 each with his own money . Over the past month or so , I have yet to walk into a retailer that sells the PS3 actually not have any in stock , the things are everywhere in my area (even the 20gb models) . Obviously this can vary by area but I would have to guess that there are 10's of thousands PS3's currently sitting in stores across the USA .

This however does not mean it is a bad machine , it's simply too expensive for the masses and currently offers very little in the way of media ( unless somebody is more interested in BluRay playback vs. gaming ) . Once the games start rolling out on a regular basis sales will increase .

They are going to sell for even more overseas. That doesn't equal a price drop. Sony saw the demand here and wants to lose less money there. We got a bargain. As a BR player alone its a steal. If Sony had known the demand here they would have sold them for more and made the profit instead of all those E-Bayers.

P.S. I guess if Toshiba wants to sell there HD DVD players (not a a game console also) they need to cut their price too. Not going to happen for either product in the near future.

Nice try, they were sitting behind the counter for people who asked for them at both Best Buy and Wal Mart. The third chance I had to pick one up was when I was in the returns line at Best Buy and a guy offered to sell me the one he was returning.

But I don't dispute that they were selling out before Christmas, I don't think there is much doubt about that. It was after Christmas that was being referred to in the EGM article (and in your post) and that's when they were piled up.

My point was that they weren't that difficult to get in LA even before Christmas when they were selling well. I saw them in Glendale, Porter Ranch, and West LA each time I could've bought one (I asked and was told so). But whatever, I'm sure you won't believe it anyway.

Dude chillout. I think you are taking things way to seriously. Yes its drawing attention to SCEA's CEO. Sony CEO's in all divisions seem to keep making bad statements in interviews. It baffles me that they can get away with this.

If pointing out what the ceo in charge of the SCEA said in an interview about the ps3 is wrong then fine the thread should be closed. But there are a bunch of threads about interviews and what people say. Why is ithis diifferent? Why shoud it be closed and others not? Because it was a dumb statement?

Bam, they upgrade the firmware to support 1080p ( SONY MADE IT A REALITY, because even 1080p setts are selling well ) and now will get a game in 1080p < why dont they just stick with what they said earlier.

Are people still even talking about 1080p? Hasn't it been proof enough already that MS was proven correct in saying 720p is the ideal resolution this gen while Sony led people around thinking PS3 games will all be "120fps @ 1080p"?

I honestly can't believe there are still people who back Sony's propaganda behind the whole 1080p thing.

Wow so even EGM who did the actual interview themselves and www.n4g.com and Engadget HD and DailyTech. Hell Fox News had a laugh about it too. Sometimes some of you just need to take the high road and avoid these threads because alot of you take this way too personal. If you are pissed he made the comments which he did it isn't bashing or a fanboy stating he said this his own words came out of his mouth. EGM didn't qoute him incorrectly it happens all the time no big suprise just a surpise of a dumb statement. How difficult is it for some of you to simply just not click on the link and move to threads you do enjoy. They close down because some of you don't know how to act as grown folks in a forum and simply discuss anything. You take out all the fanboy comments and I bet this thread would not be closed if it was simply civilized and no how to talk. Get back to your game systems if you can't handle this forum. SERIOUSLY!

Yeah, after releasing a ton in January, the supply has dried up again. Gotta keep up the charade that retailers can't keep it on the shelf. As a gamer with all the next gen systems, I'm appalled by these tactics. Consumers aren't stupid (well, at least not all of them).

How can people comment on story without reading it?

The intervew was done over a month ago in early January!!! Get that embedded into your head before you make a smart-ass comment about PS3 availability during the past month.

Inventory was extremely tight during early January but improved dramatically during mid January. Inventory became easier to find in certain spots of the country where demand was lower, such as in the mid-west. By early January, even certain high-demand areas had more consistent supply. But at the national level, inventory is moving fairly quickly for the non-bundled PS3, with the large on-line chains having sporadic availability for short periods of time before it is sold out again.

Maybe where you're from. For this part of the country (Oklahoma), our store locations got a big shipment on the 2nd of January that remained in stock until around the 10th. All this when our locations capture most of the Nichols Hills and Edmond traffic.

What does that have to do with anything? They are just a gaming blog that posts anything interesting about the game industry. If you think Nintendo is out to get Sony over stupid comments like Trettons then maybe you should point out all the other websites that took note.

I'm embarassed to be a PS3 owner, Sony needs to shut up Phil Harrison, Ken Kutaragi and Jack Tretton. Everything they end up saying just bites them in the ass.

You're embarrassed to own a video game system because of something a guy in a suit says to a reporter? That's kind of sad, really.
