Hello,

The lens door on my Z5 is stuck and doesn't close anymore.

Any idea?

If you ask Sanyo they will most likely tell you it is your fault for not cleaning the door.

You're lucky it stuck open instead of shut! You know, that door seems like a neat feature, but my first thought when I saw was, "great- another moving part to break."

Pitou,

I remember reading about this in another thread. Apparently there is some sort of thin (metal?) 'heat shield' type thing, that is glued to the back of the sliding door. I think the solution, if you could get to it, would be to just peel it off/pull it out.

This may be the issue, but as Rob said, at least it's open!

Let us know what happens.

Edit: it was this thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=798215) and the other one linked in it too.

Speqtre,

You are 100% right, I opened it and noticed the metal plate was not glued properly.

I did remove and placed it correctly. Everything is fine now.

I also thought of removing it permanently but was worried that when closed, the lens heat could spot the plastic door.

Thanks!

Pitou!

Pitou, my metal shield (or what ever it is) came off completely and I have left it off. It has been 2 weeks now and I have put about 20 hours on the projector since then with no problems. If it comes adrift again I would suggrst to take it off and leave it off incase it gets permanently jammed in there and you have to send it back to Sanyo. Like Stink said if you have to do that they will probably fine you for breaking thier product.

If you ask Sanyo they will most likely tell you it is your fault for not cleaning the door.Come on now that's not fair. Sanyo won't tell him he didn't clean the door they will tell him he didn't clean the filter. That's what they tell everyone no matter what the problem is.

LOL LOL!!! That's the best one I heard this week!

I don't see it as a problem. Anyway they can't tell if you opened it, and in all cases, *I will always be the responsible*, no matter what. They never take the blame for anything, anyway...

If it jams again, I'll just remove the metal plate, and, if after a while, the plastic door burns, I'll call them and tell them that a metal plate just fall off. I'm curious what will happen.

That being said, I doubt I'll have to send it anyway...

Thanks for your input.

Pitou!

Sorry I don't have anything constructive to add to this thread but...Legairre...that's easily the second funniest thing I've heard all day.

Hi Stink and Pitou, the sad part is we all know that's their blanket excuse for denining all warranty claims.

Sorry for the OT

At least Sanyo hasn't restricted the use of my PJ to 12 hours a week!

Hi,
My Z5 door never really closed. It was stuck opened from day zero.
I removed the metal plate. It wasn't that easy as it seems to be. It's a real pain to remove it, at least when opened.

thanks for the tips,
Marcelo

This is the best place to ask....I'm about to pull the trigger on a PJ for my Theater that's almost done, with 100% light control.
My biggest reason for this is NFLHD, some other sports, but my passion is the football season and Sunday Ticket HD games, then movies of course..not so much SD material.

I was digging the Z5, with the 2 HDMI inputs, sharper image I hear about here at AVS, but now guys are comparing 2 other LCDs that are $200 less....the Benqw500, and the Epson400.

Do any of you guys regret the Z5 ?
Know anything about the other 2 or have seen them....that have rebates pushing them out the door.
Thanks for your advice.

I really get discouraged after reading the above messages about Sanyo’s service. I almost pull the trigger to buy a Z5 last weekend. Should I look for other projectors, such Panasonic PT-AX100U or Mitsubishi HD1000U? Please give me your thought, Z5 owners. Thanks.

Here is my (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=822568) service experience. I would think results vary but I had good luck. As a side note, I have had the same problem again but just reseated the bulb on my own. Nothing ever seems loose; however, I have young children hopping all over the floor above the projector so I guess I blame that. I can't tell you how it stacks up against others from personal experience; however, as a novice I have been impressed.

I appreciate your response, Brad. I also read your posting in March, 07 and several others in the same thread. I am more positive about Z5 now. You have had Z5 for several months now. Do you like the projector? Thanks.

Ted_und,

I have been very happy. I have around 320 hours and use the XBOX360 as a media center extender, DVD player, and gaming system over component. I get 720p from the 360 for gaming which is great. I have digital cable feeding my main PC which streams over great. The setup gives me once source for all of my stuff and I think the Z5 does a great job throwing an image. Of course I am curious about the 1080P projectors out there, but I intend to stick with the Z5 until the bulb goes and analyze things then. Probably the best advice I have gotten from this forum is to go with your gut, buy what seems right, and enjoy your purchase. Every company will have a lemon or two, TV's aren't nearly as fickle as front projectors, and light control can be a hassle, but once you go over 90" you will never go back.

Thanks Brad. You convinced me. I like the point you make, “once you go over 90" you will never go back”. I will testify that in a few months.

I got my Z5 in Feb and have about 450 hours - no problems so far - and I'm lovin it. The
pic is super sharp and real quiet. No real prob. with SDE, and sports in HD is incredible.
