Ok, so it's very obvious that I can't paint worth a damn but at least I'm trying.

Here's what I did so far, in order:

1) Hung drywall and spackled.
2) Used gray primer on walls and ceiling.
3) Painted walls red (without ceiling tape) and got red paint on edges of ceiling.
4) Painted ceiling black (two coats), without tape on the walls, and got black paint on the red walls.
5) Painted walls red (2nd coat), with ceiling tape, but the black on the walls won't come off!!

Please help! Should I use paint remover or something? I've tried going over the black on the walls several times (eg. within one hour) and it seems to be helping but I don't know if it will come off completely.

Here are some pictures...

Don't panic, the red is just transparent. Several more coats of red will probably cover it up.

Or you could cover the black spots with the grey primer and then paint a couple of coats of red.

What BIGmouthinDC said...

The red in the pictures doesn't look like it has even coverage - perhaps an artifact of the flash??

BTW... a painter's trick: to remove latex paint from carpet, wood flooring, etc, get some gasline antifreeze (isopropyl alcohol for those in the south) and a rag, etc...

Let the paint dry before you go over it again. The black may be trying to bleed through the red. After it dries, try another coat. If that doesn't work, then cover that part with the grey primer again and paint a few coats of red over it.

And next time, spend the time to tape off the lighter colors before you paint the darker colors. But I'm sure you know that now.

Go to Home Depot and get the stuff called Motsenbocker's Lift Off 5 Latex Based Paint Remover. I got black paint on my blue'ish grey carpet and it took it right out even after it had dried.
