<sidenote>Hope this is the proper forum for this.</sidenote>

With my relatively new setup of a Samsung HL-S5087W 50" 1080p DLP HDTV and an Onkyo HT-S894 home theater system, I only recently noticed an issue with my analog devices (PS2, Wii, 360). After some research through these forums, it seems the anomaly I've been experiencing is called "video ground loops".

After seeing some recommendations for the Monster PowerCenter HT800 surge protector, I looked around and found it for a cheap price of about $35. However, it only marginally helped.

I then tried to isolate the problem. I plugged my PS2 directly into my TV, away from any other wires or cables. Success! No video ground loops! However, this kind of defeats the purpose of an A/V receiver. So I plugged the receiver back into the TV, and only the PS2 into the receiver, and kept all other cables away. The ground loops returned, even if not as intense as when I have everything hooked up to the receiver.

So I ask, what is the source of these video ground loops, and what can I do to resolve them?

This thread realates more to audio equipment, but the principles of ground loops are the same and you should find it helpful:
