View Full Version : Epson TW100 vs TW700/810?

I have had an Epson TW100 for about 3 years. I am happy with the projected image, and have never had a problem. It is ceiling mounted, projecting on to a DaLite HCCV permanently mounted screen 84" in width. The room is light controlled. Principle use is HDTV and occasional game playing. The 700/810 would be mounted the same way, and project on the same screen. The TW100 bulb is high hours, and as it has aged, it has dimmed and is noticably dimmer than when it was new. Still very enjoyable, but approaching time for replacement.

My question for comments is this: Will I see a huge improvement if I purchase a new 700/810 over my TW100 with a new bulb? Or, should I buy the bulb, and wait for generation 2 of the Epson 1080P?

I have an HD-DVD (Xbox360) and an Over The Air Tuner (Samsung DTB-H260F) along with a Comcast HD DVR. The majority of viewing is HD source material.

I expect the value of the TW100 is around $500 (I have the box and all supporting materials and accessories). But I am not anxious to upgrade if the difference isn't stunning. I am will to buy the bulb and wait for the gen if the difference is marginal.

Anyone here have experience with these two different generation Epson projectors? Thanks

Believe me, ignorance is bliss. Take the blue pill and stay in the Matrix (or was it the red pill ?).

I remember when I purchased the TW100, there was much (confrontational) discussion about the new at the time Sony, which had some minor bulb life issues, vs the Epson, Sanyo etc. There was no 1080P for the solid state crowd (the CRT guys seemed to be able to display almost infinite variations of high res options). Today, 720P is the norm, and the displays and bulbs seem to operate at higher efficiency. Again, if it were a dramatic difference, I might take the pill... But, if it is a Bufferin vs. Anacin type differential give me the bulb... Any actual upgraders out there?

Thanks
