I'm going to get the Panny 50" plasma. How high on the wall do should I mount it? It's going on an interior wall, the room is 12 wide by 18 long - the viewing area will be about 15 feet from the tv.

Is there a "standard" height? I plan on getting a tilting (up and down) wall mount, if that makes a difference.

Thanks again guys!

I mounted mine slightly above eye level - I sit 12' from a 50"

What I did

Sit in your viewing chair or couch - sit up straight
Measure your eye level from the floor
Measure up this distance on the mounting wall - then add 4-10 inches
This will be the middle of your TV

Have someone stand at the mounting wall and show you where the top and bottom of the tv will be - then adjust to your liking
Some of the mounting brackets allow for horizontal adjustment - but check on this first - you may get an extra 2-5 inches up or down

Remember that when you are seated, you will likely lean back, which will bring your eyes up

You want to make sure that you are not straining your neck to look up at a TV
I also hate looking down at a TV

Hope this helps

Why not cut out a piece of cardboard the size of your TV and move it around until it suits you?

That is a very good approach. Add to that by drawing some horizontal lines and verticals lines with letters for each intersection. Then sit in the places where you normally sit to watch and see where your eyes focus as the most natural and comfortable position. ID the letter and make that point the center of your screen.

I mounted my 46" LCD 51" off the floor to the bottom of the tv. Height is very comfortable, especially when reclining and half watching/half sleeping. At first I thought it maybe too high since most people are used to veiwing TV's about 18" off the floor. I now believe this height to be just about perfect.

Mine is four feet to the bottom of the set. I wouldn't want it any higher.

My 50 inch plasma is stand mounted with the bottom of the viewing area at 31 inches from the floor. Looks good for me.

You might want to consider if there will be anything under the tv such as a table or a cabinet to hold equipment. Also, will you be putting a speaker(s) on said table/cabinet or wall? You need to add space for that.

I mounted my new 46" Sony for bedroom, hospital style, bottom is about 6 feet off the ground!

This is for laying in bed and watching (no more "please put your knee down"). :D

I used the cardboard trick (cut a piece of the shipping box) and kept putting it places.

I just hung up my Toshiba 50" Plasma this weekend. Following the guidance in this thread I have the bottom edge of the TV at 36" off the ground and I could not be happier with this positioning.

3ft floor-to-TV bottom => 10ft viewing distances
4ft floor-to-TV bottom => 14ft viewing distances

52" Sharp - about 4ft to the bottom of the TV. Viewing distance is about 10ft. I think this measure is important too. If the viewing distance is >15ft, I think this is good. However mine feels a bit high.

I'm looking into adjusting the height using the brackets that go on the back of the TV.

Now, I have a question. There are series of bracket holes. I used the 4th to screw to the TV. I'm planning on using the 10th. This way i know i can lower the TV atleast by 3 inches.

Use the bracket tilt feture to lower another inch. I'm hoping this 'll make it better.

Do any of you guys see any problem with the approach above with regards to the weight distribution and any other details.?

Please advise.

I'm bringing this thread back from the dead instead of making a new one.

I'm about to decide on a cabinet height (built in) below a bookshelf (counter depth of 24" with 12" shelves, TV will sit in front). I plan to put a 52" FP on there (more or less, haven't picked the set yet).

I have to decide how high to make the counter. 36"? 30"? 24"?

The viewing distance will be ~12-13 feet according to the sofa drawn on the designer's plans.

It would not be a huge issue except that I wish to maximize my storage space in the cabinets below. 36" would be ideal for storage, but I'm leaning towards lower. Perhaps 30" max. The FP will sit on its stand.
