I was wondering if anybody has used a coffered ceiling as part of their HT design, and if so can post some pictures. I saw a picture of a home theater with a coffered ceiling in another thread and I thought it really added a lot of arcitectural interest to the design.

For those of you that have built a coffered ceiling in their HT, was it worth the extra time and effort? Also, does this type of ceiling have any effect on the acoustical properties of a room, either good or bad?

check out makeit57's theater. he did an absolutely amazing job on his coffered ceiling.

his thread is here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=6739541&&#post6739541)

he posted detailed pictures of his ceiling construction, beginning on page 1.

Mike, thanks for the link to that thread. That is one incredible looking theater, and it is the ceiling that makes it stand out from other HT's. It looks like it was a lot of hard work, but I think the results justified it.

i think doing something special for the ceiling (coffers, fiber-optic stars) really helps set a theater apart from any other room in the house.

i looked through my bookmarks and found this article (http://www.taunton.com/finehomebuilding/pages/h00123.asp) from fine homebuilding covering a technique similar to what makeit57 used.
