Hi,
I have a customer who is trying to find a projector for this situation. He has a 80" electric Screen (stewart) and can't find a projector to fit his application.

The throw is at 18', the screen is 80" (16:9).

Under 12000$ is the budget. The only ones i've found were a infocus business projector and the 22000$ marantz 1080p. Neither of these will really work. I thought marantz made a long throw lense for one of the 720p models but it looks like its no longer available. He does not want to get a different aftermarket lense or anything like that, he just wants a turnkey solution.

Any suggestions are great. Even if we can't sell him something, i'd like to at least point him in the right direction.

thanks for the help

The marantz VP 12S4 has a long throw that would fit your needs. I haven't heard that the long throw lens isn't available any longer. I'd give Marantz a call. If it is still available I'm sure it can be ordered.

Infocus 777 can be ordered with various lens options that would work but might exceed the budget slightly.

dont know if the 777 will work, but it is well below his budget.
the epson 810 will be just a couple inches less than 18' back.

but shouldn't a dealer already know or have access to this info?

The 777 at its current $9999 retail is below his budget but the optional lens is $4000 MSRP which brings it above his budget. Yes, an Infocus dealer should have this info. I don't know if the 333 can use the optional lens, I'd call AVS.

infocus dealers are really dealing on the 777's also.
ie, they are much less than MSRP.

Sorry, I posted under a different guys name (no i have no idea what his name means)

It looks like the DPI iVision has a lense option that would work, waiting on final pricing for the PJ + lense. Obviously their nicer stuff is out of this world (titan etc) so i'm not really sure how good the "entry level" products are or arn't. Any feedback on these? I never hear about this line from DPI at all. I'm a bit worried about light output at this distance based purely on specificiations and no first hand experience.

Honestly, I got brought into this at the last moment to help this guy out and wish we had just let it go. We stopped dealing infocus for a variety of reasons (which I wont go into) but I will let him know thats an option. I wasn't sure how much dealers were moving on it.

He also has a fan he doesn't want to get rid of. The screen was sold to him by another dealer (for this exact application) almost 5 years ago. The screen was never rolled out once. Luckily, it ended up going down correctly and amazingly had no wrinkles or anything. The stewart rep was fairly worried that the screen wouldn't operate correctly because they are designed of course to spend some time down over the long haul. Not a cheap mistake it if hadn't worked out!

Yes, I agree we should have the data. The biggest issue with infocus is we had stopped dealing their products about a year ago and i'm honestly out of touch with their current pricing and options. Of course, the 777 with lense was something like 20-25k if I remember right, obviously things have changed

Dealers will make a good deal if they have one in stock or have a demo they wish to move. But, if they have to order one they might not be as generous. Unfortunately, when Infocus dropped the price last month by $5000 dollars the dealer price didn't change proportionately. So there isn't as much wiggle room to deal as one might expect at its current MSRP. Some volume dealers might have a little more room to bargain especially if they bypass the distribution chain. I would definitely try AVS if someone is interested they might have better pricing.

This isn't that unusual for Infocus and why a lot of dealers stopped carrying them among other resons. I remember one of their price drops a few years ago and they didn't change the dealer cost at all. The new MSRP was only $19 more than dealer cost  Of course, all of a sudden we had lots of inquiries and some consumers were upset and saying we were ripping them off because we wouldn't budge on the new MSRP. Luckily, that model was soon replaced with a newer modek :D

Unfortunately, I dont think AVS can sell Infocus, as there are rules about selling out of state, being able to demo a unit, etc.

But I was quoted a generous discount off MSRP on a new 777 by an authorized dealer.

AVS sells Infocus. They might not be able to sell the 777 but I know they sell the IN76. Anyway, the 777 is a great PJ and if you want a large screen or need a bright projector I think it is tough to beat especially if you can get a good discount.
